WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT…

* LOCATIONS…LAKE COUNTY…THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS ABOVE 9000 FEET… TELLER COUNTY… THE WET AND SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS ABOVE 10000 FEET.

* CA– USE AND TIMING…A VIGOROUS SPRING STORM SYSTEM MOVING ACROSS WESTERN ARIZONA THIS MORNING WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE INTO THE FOUR CORNERS REGION LATER TONIGHT BEFORE MOVING ACROSS THE STATE THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING. THIS STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING HEAVY SPRING SNOW OVER THE MOUNTAIN AREAS THIS AFTERNOON WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE DAY ON FRIDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION…1 TO LOCALLY 2 FEET OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS WITH 6 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW EXPECTED FOR THE LEADVILLE AREA.

* IMPACT…SNOW AND SNOW COVERED ROADS WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS WEATHER AND TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

ACCUMULATING SNOW ON TREE BRANCHES AND POWER LINES COULD LEAD TO TREE DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES.

  1. Conveniently, these snowfalls are not necessarily recorded as part of the overall snow pack since they lie outside “peak” snow water equivalent (SWE) of April 1st or April 15th. Dismal SWE for much of the intermountain West will be fodder for alarmist brouhaha this summer, but if these snow events were included in the tally, maybe not as much. In any case, mountain snow even this time of year is greatly appreciated for the entirety of the Western CONUS.

  2. “EVERYONE” knows that it doesn’t “SNOW” anymore ?

    The last time it snowed was on April 1, 1979 !
