50 million people under storm or blizzard warnings and watches

Temperatures 15 to 30 degrees below normal by Wednesday morning.

“Nor’easter to shut down travel, unleash blizzard conditions in at least 8 states,” warns AccuWeather.com

Forecasts call for up to 2 feet (60 cm) of snow – or more! – in places by early Wednesday.

“During its height we could see snowfall rates of one to three inches (2.5-7.6 cm), even up to 4 inches (10 cm) per hour,” said Alan Dunham, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The sun has been blank for 8 days I’ve read. There really hasn’t been much of brutal winter here..in eastern canada.I know for sure the sun is the biggest player in its energy transfer to earth and the battle of the suns unequal heating of the northern and southern hemispheres and 1 day in the near future..this fairly stable cycle will turn the corner and Jack frost will make life a hell ..if it tips to an extreme unknown solar cycle minimum. Human kinds arrogant and ignorant beliefs about the fake climate warming/disrupting properties of burned hydrocarbons by closed minded people ..might never change but sacred information about earths past climate history must be told by bold intellects who forgot more than the poor naive agw believers will ever know.

  2. The most important feature of this particularly deep solar minimum is the diminished magnetic field which will cause more rain resulting in chaos worldwide. The fact that the Earths magnetic field is also waning at the same time (are the two related?) can only make things worse for a vastly more populated planet than last time. Radiation from space could rise to unprecidented levels.

In weather there is no “normal”, there is only average, which is not at all the same thing. A good meteorologist will always refer to temperatures as being above or below average.

  4. It’ll be a skating rink here in the NYC area for several days.Right now,it looks as if it’s raining ice.The areas with all got off lucky.

  5. Well, I, the biggest snow lover in the east, certainly in NYC, am very disappointed. Right now, all we have at 2pm here in the bowels of the megalopolis is a slushy mess of about 5″ while my friend in Putnam County, some 30 miles to the north, continues to enjoy four-inch-an-hour snowfall, 12″ accumulation and 30+ mph winds.

How sad, how sad, born 10,000 years too late – missed the last Ice Age. Hate it when that happens!!

  6. Don’t confuse Weather with Climate. A snowy winter is weather, if welcome and nice. An increasing tendency for snowy winters, arriving over decades and lasting through generations, is likely ‘climate change.’ From this point I may see another fifty or sixty years before I shuffle off the mortal coil. If a discernible change should happen in that time, it might mean something. With MS, colder weather would be possibly nice but I wouldn’t quit my day job quite yet.
