  1. It’s beginning to look like Alaska will not be short on snow this year. The song “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” popped into my mind while I was typing the above. LOL.

  2. Many times these articles give no info on just how often this type of thing occurs. Is this snowfall rare, or fairly common? Fiddlin

    • It’s not unusual that it is snowing now in that part of Alaska as it is around 70N…what is noteworthy is the amount of snow falling… This area is dry because usually really cold air doesn’t hold moisture…What should be tracked is with less surface warming from the sun yet underwater volcanoes causing heating of the oceans increasing water vapor….since the air can’t hold that vapor its going to fall back as snow…a feedback loop that will continue as long as those volcanoes are erupting and we are in solar minimum conditions…ultimately it increases snowfall and cloud cover…two feedbacks fighting water vapor on cooling the planet…whichever forcing is greater will win out

    …SNOW CONTINUES ACROSS THE INTERIOR…

    RAIN FROM MONDAY TURNED INTO SNOW OVERNIGHT WITH REPORTS FROM ACROSS THE INTERIOR OF 0.3 TO 5.1 INCHES AS OF 9 AM THIS MORNING.

    THE HEAVY WET SNOW ON TOP OF ALREADY WET ROADS IS CREATING VERY SLUSHY DRIVING CONDITIONS…AND VISIBILITY IS BEING REDUCED TO LESS THAN ONE MILE BY SNOW AND FOG.

    SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE THROUGH THE DAY WITH A TOTAL SNOWFALL OF 4 TO 20 INCHES OF SNOW POSSIBLE BY WEDNESDAY MORNING.
    THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL BE NEAR THE ALASKA RANGE.
    4 TO 14 INCHES OF SNOW WILL FALL AROUND FAIRBANKS.

    EXTREME WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS ARE PROBABLE AND CAUTION SHOULD BE — USED IF YOU ARE TRAVELING AROUND THE INTERIOR.
