Paralyzing blizzard could rank near top 10 to hit Eastern US

The snowfall could easily cause more than $1 billion in damage and paralyze the Eastern third of the nation, said weather service director Louis Uccellini .

“It (has) the potential to be an extremely dangerous storm that can affect more than 50 million people,” said Uccellini.

Snowfall as heavy as 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.6 cm) an hour could continue for 24 hours or more, said meteorologist Paul Kocin with the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center.

Some 12 to 18 inches (30-46 cm)  of snow was also predicted for Philadelphia, and 8 to 12 inches (20-30 cm) in New York.

Almost 5,000 flights have already been cancelled for Friday and Saturday in the U.S., according to Houston-based FlightAware.

The blizzard could rank near the top 10 to ever hit the region, according to the National Weather Service.

    • They were always going to make 2015 the warmest year in time for COP21 in Paris. And of course 2016 will be even warmer but as this site shows, they will need to distort the figures even more to cover up all the cold that is around at the moment. The problem with fiddling the figures is the existence of the 2 satellite records that are run by honest people and the growing divergence of the fiddled surface temps and the sat records over the last 10 years. And now you can see the reason for the video by the climate crooks attacking the sat records.

    • na, they’ll never do that, will they, because if this is the worst blizzard for 100 years, then the previous worst happened at the lower CO2 level of 100 years ago and can’t have been caused by CO2 levels, eh!!??

    • Didn’t you know that GW is the direct cause of snow? Makes sense, doesn’t it? 🙂 Especially when the great Al Gore said ‘our planet has a fever’.

  1. No Hurricane, no tropical storm, no gulf push, and all this moisture coming together over land. I think when this AMO cycle gets cooled down, and the weakest sun in 200 yrs. , this may become the norm. some of these states I see getting snow all day today have very little snow equipment, this does not make for easy clean up,

    • Yikes, I can see my house on that map! OK, its in southeastern VA, right on the edge of the lime green (before it turns white). We may not get a lot of accumulation … but we are getting layers of snow-ice-snow-sleet etc. And you are totally right about the equipment problem. I live on a farm and they do not plow, sand, or salt anywhere closer than about 4-5 miles from my house. They just assume it’ll “melt” (OK, eventually it does… ) and I am likely to get stuck out here for a few days at least after the storm ends (right now we are getting freezing rain). I have to be more careful than some because I use a walker or cane to get from the door to my car.

And with slick and/or icy roads, I won’t risk driving in even a slightly icy road… had a friend (years ago) who lost an eye when steering wheel went through it when he hit a thin layer of black ice he couldn’t see at night. So be careful if you’re in it!

My American friends, please write to the Daily Mail with your views on Global Warming.

    Dear Editor,
With heavy , globally-warmed, snow falling all around his palatial home in Nashville, Tennessee, former US Vice President , Al Gore , has gone very quiet. Maybe he is unable to get out for Press interviews. Therefore, he can’t explain to the world how, if the North Polar Ice-cap is rapidly melting……. there is really heavy snow in the Deep South of the USA, in his home-State of Tennessee !!
It may well be that Al Gore prefers not to face the media to speak about the REAL “Inconvenient Truth” on man-made Global Warming ………..that it does not even exist !!
    Yours faithfully,
