Brazil – Coldest September in 50 years

Such low temperatures not recorded in MS since 1966.

In the central part of Brazil, in Mato Grosso do Sul, five cities recorded frosts, according to the National Institute of Meteorology.

Those cities were: Amambai – with the lowest value of 2.2 degrees – Juti, Ponta Pora, Puerto Mutinho and Seven Falls.

Some pastures have been damaged.

This is the coldest September since the beginning of measurements in the state in 1966.

Frosts also hit some municipalities in Paraná and Santa Catarina, there are no reported damage to wheat crops of these two states.

  1. Temperature anomally for the south of Brazil in Sept 2016 was about -1,5ºC. It has reached from -3ºC to -0,5ºC during the period May-September depending on the place. In the 3 southernmost states it was achieved a record of 50+ days on subzero temperatures for a maximum height of 1400m in the region. In the southeast of Brazil a few peaks placed on the State of Rio de Janeiro reached -10ºC during the ‘summer’ olympíc games back in August.

  2. This is running counter to their claims of the warmest year ever. Especially when added to the other cold reports on here.

  3. Next folloes the link of a local news site with the weather forecast for the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, for Oct 9th, 2016. In the highlands, frost and temperature close to 0ºC. In the capital, Porto Alegre, at sea level, minimum temperature of 8/9ºC. That’s spring time… Global warming? Well, for sure it’s local cooling…!
People is asking when will the cold season end, after 5 1/2 months… And many of them are becoming freightened for the next years…
