China – Heavy snow disrupts air traffic in NE China airport

Shuts down airport in Shenyang City, capital of northeast China’s Liaoning Province.

8 Dec 2016 – The snow started Thursday morning, piling up to 9.6 millimeters high after over 10 hours of snowing.

(One-third of an inch of snow shut down the airport? I’m guessing the translation is incorrect. See note from Argiris below)

As of 5:30 p.m., 98 flights to or from Shenyang Taoxian International Airport had been delayed, leaving more than 1,000 passengers stranded, airport sources said. The airport was closed from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., the sources said.

Eighteen snow removal trucks and nearly 100 personnel have been sent to clean the ice and snow from the ground.

Thanks to Argiris Diamantis for this link

“After 10 hours of heavy snowfall 9,6 millimeters of snow doesn’t sound much,” says Argiris. “The need for 18 snow removal trucks indicates that may-be the word “milli” should have been left out.”
