Coldest in 110 years in southeast Australia

Record-breaking cold across New South Wales and Victoria.  Some towns recorded their coldest morning ever – not just for the date, but the coldest morning EVER.

The mercury in the NSW town of Deniliquin, close to the Murray River, sank to -5.6C on Sunday morning — the coldest in 110 years.

It was even colder further north across New South Wales and Victoria, where some towns recordied their coldest morning ever.

Early on Saturday morning, the nation’s capital fell to -8.7C, the coldest in 46 years. Three consecutive nights below -7C was also a first for 46 years.

Goulburn fell to -10C on Sunday, it’s coldest start to the day in 17 years. It was only a little better on Monday morning at -9.4C.

Elsewhere in Victoria, the temperature in the Latrobe Valley dropped to -4.8C, the coldest in three decades. Sale’s low of -6.6C on Monday was its coldest ever – coldest EVER.

    Comment:
SC14 one of five reduced output cycles of the Gleissberg Minimum which ended in 1934.
46 years ago was on the declining edge of SC20 a AMP affected cool sun period, with significant, worldwide Meridional Jet Stream activity, caused by the reduced levels of EUV being emitted by the Sun at the time.
A little bit of reporting balance is need I think, but then again this is MSM.
EVER is just stupid. The unrecorded temperatures have been much colder during the major cold periods of each of the worldwide named Grand Solar Minimums in the last 1500 years.
If you think that was cold, look here:

  2. No it did not fall to -10.0 C in Goulburn last Sunday, it was -10.4C however the BOM have a software limit on cold temps so the sw chopped .4C off.

Blatant fraud by the BOM would have gone unnoticed if not for the dedicated band of volunteers who watch these shysters like a hawk.

We owe these people a debt of gratitude.

  3. and its worse in rural area in Vic because we have wooden slat homes old usually
no insulation in the walls so chill seeps in insulated cielings help a small bit
and then raised off ground the chill also seeps in from the floors
your house may be watertight but anything stored in cabinets that sit ON the floors smells musty when its warmer in spring summer.
you simply can NOT heat the entire home well enough to combat it..well maybe if youre rather well off and can afford 200 a tonne wood endlessly or gas/electricity bills that would be huge
throw some wind in and its a lost battle the gaps all over allow icy draughts in so easily;-(

  4. Just checked out the snow cams on mt Hotham, Falls creek & Baw Baw. What is all that white stuff everywhere?? I remember watching on the news 10 years ago they were telling us snow was going to be a thing of the past in the Alps. I guess they were wrong.
