Dept of Energy Blocked Texas from Increasing Power Ahead of Killer Storm

I think the federal government should be paying the outrageous power bills that Texans are now receiving as a result of this catastrophic bureaucratic blunder.

A week before the storm, Texas begged for help and asked for Department of Energy to lift federal regulations barring state’s energy output.

However, an Emergency Order from the Biden administration’s Department of Energy shows Texas energy grid operator ERCOT was instructed to stay within green energy standards by purchasing energy from outside the state at a higher cost. This throttled power output throughout the state ahead of the catastrophic polar vortex.

The order shows Acting Energy Secretary David Huizenga did not waive environmental restrictions to allow for maximum energy output. He instead ordered ERCOT to utilize all resources in order to stay within acceptable emissions standards – including purchasing energy from outside the state.

Here’s a link to that emergency order:

You’d need four attorneys to read the emergency order just so you could figure out what in the hell it says.

“ERCOT anticipates that this Order may result in exceedance of emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury, and carbon monoxide emissions, as well as wastewater release limits,” the order states. “To minimize adverse environmental impacts, this Order limits operation of dispatched units to the times and within the parameters determined by ERCOT for reliability purposes.”

Resulted in huge HUGE price increases

Moreover, the order instructed an “incremental amount of restricted capacity” to be sold to ERCOT at “a price no lower than $1,500/MWh,” an increase of over 6,000 percent over February 2020 prices of $18.20.

On Wednesday, the Dallas Business Journal reported, “Electricity on the Texas grid has averaged about $1,137.33 per megawatt hour so far in February, up from $18.20 per megawatt hour in February 2020, according to data from the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas. That’s a jump of more than 6,000 percent.”

Days later, the Public Utility Commission of Texas set prices at $9,000/MWh.

Meanwhile: Texans Had Previously Decided Not To Winterize Power Grid Because Of Global Warming

Texans believed a global warming report that claimed Texas would be 1.6 degrees warmer on average, and thus did not winterize the grid.

Texas Establishment Republicans blew off calls to address power grid vulnerabilities, and power providers didn’t do safety inspections because they were afraid of contracting COVID-19. Now, new information has come to light that the decision not to legally require power plants to winterize was based on reports given to the Texas legislature suggesting global warming was happening to such an extent that winterizing the system was unnecessary.

The report suggested that so much global warming was happening that the winterizing the systems would not necessary.

The State Climatologist predicts a reduction in winter weather through 2036 and says we will be 1.6 degrees warmer than in 2000-2018.

The report states that winters in the near future were expected to be “about 5.6°F warmer than the 1950-1999 average” and that a “decrease was expected” in winter weather.

But in reality this was not the case, as evidenced by weather reports and winter storm warnings from earlier this month:

I got the above info from this hit piece by Tony Ortiz dated 25 Feb 2021. (I call it a ‘hit piece’ because it tries to place all the blame on Texas Republicans instead of placing it squarely on the Federal government.)

  1. Is any of this being reported anywhere else? As in the msm?
    Of course not.
So at least 50% of our countrymen will never know.

  2. The first commandment of being a good Democrat is never let a good crisis go to waste.

Apparently the second commandment is to create as many crises as possible.

  3. They should pay, unfortunately that means we all pay. Stupidity is so unnecessary. No one should pay more than 2 or 3 times their usual bill at most. Hate and ignorance (new code word is “science”) now drives our world. So sad, so preventable.

  4. Of course the malfunctioning of the texan powergrid is clearly a conqequence of the idioacy of barack obama , joe biden is only a puppet or harlequino dancing to the whims of his boss . You may tend to put blame on the civil servants of the energy department , but they were only acting in accordance with the joe biden decrees , executive orders originating from the obama entourage . It remains very doubtful whether biden is capable to put any reasonable thinking on paper ,let alone he is capable to make a speech without modern tech help , a whisperer near his ears and a full text projected in front of his eyes . So this leaves Obama as the responsible person . He should be given a worse treatment than John F. Kennedy by the texan population .

ChickenWW3 posts: “If you think you got it bad, somewhere out there is a two-year-old with a mom who is a stripper, daddy is a crackhead, and her grandfather is President of the United States.”.

  6. Actually, what you need to be doing is accusing very senior officials of wilful homicide with malice aforethought.

No-one capable of holding office senior enough to issue such a ruling could possibly be ignorant as to the consequences of such actions. Or if they were, then whosoever appointed them wilfully put the lives of the whole nation at risk.

This isn’t about paying bills, it’s about putting people on trial for murder. Mass murder.

Or, of course, rejecting the legal system just as free speech has been rejected and seeking them out and meting out primitive justice….

  7. To be honest, the blame lies both at the feet of DOE and at the feet of the climate catastrophist ‘climastrologists’ who deny that global cooling is taking place because that would end their lucrative federally-funded gravy train.

  8. the bottom line is the morons fear of co2 emissions was the cause of blocking reserve power being available to those in urgent need
theyd rather people died than a small increase in power supply and some co2
now if thats not legally actionable I dunno what sort of world we live in

  9. America,
Don’t for a minute think this article is a joke.
I highly doubt any action will be taken against the criminal actions of DOE’s Huizenga, the PUC of Texas, or purveyors of false global warming reports (pick your report).

But DO believe that this will be the result of any portion of the Green New Deal being implemented (already the case).
Colder state or warmer state – yours could be next.

Here in Oregon we shut down our last coal plant in Boardman last October. Many people suffered in our latest ice storm. You can be next.

  10. I work in the industry and your interpretation of this order is complete wrong.
    – Your reference to the $1,500/mwh price is wrong. This is simply stating prices need to be above $1500 before power plants offer generation into the market that causes the plants to exceed their environmental emission limits.
    – The PUCT did not “set prices $9,000/mwh” – This is a misunderstanding of the ERCOT market structure. ERCOT has a market structure with a $9,000/mwh price cap. The PUCT has the authority to declare an emergency which they did. The emergency was due to the fact that a significant number of power plants failed to operate due to freezing temperatures. This is why there were brownouts and this is why the PUCT declared an emergency. A more correct way to interpret this action by the PUCT would be the following… The PUCT declared a system emergency and in accordance with ERCOT regulations the power prices were prevented from going above $9,000/mwh.
    – You are wrong regarding winterization – the only way to appropriately winterize a power plant is to build the plant within a building that protects it from the rare freezing weather like Texas experienced in February. However, the hot summer temperatures in Texas prevent this because the power plants would over heat during the summer.

  11. By the time the world wakes up to the global warming lie, it will already be too late for those in the most impoverished nations/conditions who will starve to death or die from exposure to extreme weather conditions! And, that’s all part of the plan of those in power. With their corrupt takeover complete, i.e., 2020 election, nothing will stop them, certainly not the masses who have proven themselves to be predominantly ‘sheep’, or should I say ‘lambs, being led to slaughter’!
