Discoveries in the ice reveal our planet’s fluctuating, never static, climate history

This puts in context any claims that 20th century warming is somehow unusual and alarming. It is not – it is business as usual for earth’s climate.

Discoveries in the ice reveal our planet’s fluctuating, never static, climate history

By Ptolemy2

During WW2 a macabre find was made 16,000 feet up in Indian mountains – a lake full of corpses. Later scientific analysis would date them to the 9th century AD – at the start of the Medieval Warm Period about 1000 years ago. They had been killed by large hail-stones.

What is interesting about this is that the lake corpses had remained hidden in ice for the several centuries of the intervening Little Ice Age, only emerging part of the year from ice in the current warm period – in 1942. More evidence – for those with eyes to see – of climate oscillation over the period of a thousand years.

Another story of death in the ice came more recently from Siberia. In 2016 there was an outbreak of the deadly bacterial disease anthrax among reindeer and their herders in Siberia. It was not from human weaponised pathogens, but a natural event. A reindeer had died of (natural) anthrax 75 years ago and its body was iced over, only to be thawed out in 2016.

This shows once again a window on natural climate oscillation, this time the approximately 60 year wavelength of the ocean driven Atlantic Multidecadal oscillation.

Climate oscillates naturally over a range of different timescales. Such fractal-like behaviour with time is to be expected of a dynamic and complex chaotic system. This puts in context any claims that 20th century warming is somehow unusual and alarming. It is not – it is business as usual for earth’s climate.

  1. How ironic that the father of chaos theory is the renowned Dr. Edward Lorenz , an MIT professor of meteorology. His work from the 1960s laid the foundation for modern chaos theory. The results of his work are almost totally overlooked when examining weather and climatic events, and especially in regard to long term cycles.

  2. Why is the NASA satellite sea level data not being updated? The last entry was for July 2017 and it showed a declining trend in the sea level. Could it be that the sea level is continuing to drop and they don’t want the public to know?

    • Were one a cynic, one might suspect that “adjustments” were in the works. Presently access to raw, un-“adjusted” climate data is becoming something of a paper chase. The PTB seem to think the public should only see predigested data, lest we come to conclusion discordant with “consensus.”

  3. my best laughs are from the “tundra/permafrost melting disaster” crowd
    hmm?
so i ask them then it MUST have been ice/ snow free for some time for there to BE any shrubs ferns trees to make the sphagnum moss and other detritus that got buried grow in the first place then??
to make them even more peeved mention the plant growth in areas of antarctica deep deep under icepack:-)

we take our small pleasures where we may:-) roflmao

  4. Not a planet, All dating sciences are unreliable, and how the hell can they know how they died?
Faith in Science because proof is so often missing.

    • Quit feeding the Turtle wacky backy and smoke it yourself, and do us all a favour and take a world tour via air – UK to Australia to US east coast, UK. If you find an edge, fall off it and report back when you find a way back.

  5. Climate is controlled by natural cycles. Earth is just past the 2003+/- peak of a millennial cycle and the current cooling trend will likely continue until the next Little Ice Age minimum at about 2650.See the Energy and Environment paper at http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0958305X16686488

    Here is the abstract:
    “ABSTRACT
This paper argues that the methods used by the establishment climate science community are not fit for purpose and that a new forecasting paradigm should be adopted. Earth’s climate is the result of resonances and beats between various quasi-cyclic processes of varying wavelengths. It is not possible to forecast the future unless we have a good understanding of where the earth is in time in relation to the current phases of those different interacting natural quasi periodicities. Evidence is presented specifying the timing and amplitude of the natural 60+/- year and, more importantly, 1,000 year periodicities (observed emergent behaviors) that are so obvious in the temperature record. Data related to the solar climate driver is discussed and the solar cycle 22 low in the neutron count (high solar activity) in 1991 is identified as a solar activity millennial peak and correlated with the millennial peak -inversion point – in the RSS temperature trend in about 2003. The cyclic trends are projected forward and predict a probable general temperature decline in the coming decades and centuries. Estimates of the timing and amplitude of the coming cooling are made. If the real climate outcomes follow a trend which approaches the near term forecasts of this working hypothesis, the divergence between the IPCC forecasts and those projected by this paper will be so large by 2021 as to make the current, supposedly actionable, level of confidence in the IPCC forecasts untenable.”
Check the forecasts in Fig 12 o fthe paper.
It is well past time for a paradigm shift in the forecasting methods used by establishment climate science. The whole dangerous global warming delusion is approaching collapse.

  6. Its so obvious to anyone that can keep their mind open long enough to accept the data that is available.
I’ve read articles about 7th century silver mines being found high up in the alps with tools intact ready to start operations, but the miners never came back. Why? Little Ice Age.
Obviously there was a time when there was no ice at those altitudes and seasonal mining was possible. Only to be suddenly shut down by sudden and unexpected turn in the weather.

  7. Warmist alarmist love to point out these finds and say they are evidence of a warming planet.
I agree. They are evidence of a warming planet. They are also evidence that people and animals, forests and jungles existed in those areas long before the ice came indicating to me that a warmer planet is nothing unusual.

…and make many humans short sighted hysterics…
