Epic cold headed for Florida

“Dangerous hard freeze as far south as Gainesville FL,” warns meteorologist. “Shattering record lows. Historical cold!” … only 26°F Thursday morning as well as Jax.”

“Freeze warnings far into the Florida panhandle,” Tweets Dr Ryan Maue. “Even the Atlantic and Gulf coastal counties nearly halfway down the panhandle.”

“Epic cold.”

“Wonder how this will affect the FL commercial blueberry, strawberry, tomato, potato and other crops?” asks Mom2. ?”I can at least cover my few blueberry plants. Commercial growers with acres of plants have a bigger problem. A lot of dooryard citrus and avocado growers may get a nasty surprise if they don’t protect their plants.”

“Fighting in the streets for food way before we see ice sheets may prove to be correct.”

“Even Dr. Maue calls it an ‘Ag killer’ freeze.”

  1. Even if the damage isn’t that severe, look for the growers and retailer outlets to dramatically increase the price for these commodities.
