Five to seven feet of new snow for Lake Tahoe ski resorts

A series of snow storms is expected to pummel all of Northern California for possibly a week, dumping as much as 5-7 feet of new snow.

More than 2 feet of fresh snow was expected in some higher locations of the Sierra by this morning (March 14) and more is definitely on the way.

  1. We have had a record warm winter in Manitoba and when family and friends ask me what I think is going on I tell them I have a BAD feeling about it. I say; “Look at Europe, Russia, China, Japan, the Middle East and North Africa and the record cold and snows they got this winter.” “Look” I say, “At the record cold summer in much of the Southern Hemisphere.” “We seem to be under a temporary bubble” I tell them. “One that when it pops will allow in cold and snow unlike anything we have ever seen before.” “Don’t let this rare weather lull you into complacency” I tell them. “Prepare for the inevitable” I say. “Store longlasting foodstuffs and emergency supplies” I tell them. “Prepare” I say.

    • After 5000 years of recorded human history, you wonder, What part of 2,000,000 sunrises doesn’t a pessimist understand? ~Robert Brault,

      • The part about carbon taxes in order to keep warm after the Sun sets is probably the part I don’t understand. And of course that seems as relevant as this quote.

        • The point of the quote is that I don’t understand all the pessimism. The sun will come up. Life will go on. Granted it might not be as active a sun but it will rise just as it has for the last 4,500,000,000 years. It has been much colder and it has been much warmer. I would hate to see the skeptic community fall back on the same old scare tactics the agw folks are so fond of. Hyperbole is hyperbole and it destroys credibility.
Optimism is the foundation of courage.

    • “I cant agree more!”I feel we are going to have some cold records “shattered this summer” in Canada and the U.S.A and it will only get worse by next winter. It won,t surprise me if Florida, doesn’t breaks some cold and snow records next winter.

  2. This is not a surprise (but a very pleasant gift, nonetheless!). We’ve all expected that March would bring us a ‘regression to the mean’ and give us some moisture.

For the typically highest snowfall totals, check out and I think Kirkwood got somewhere around 800 inches last season. We have a long way to go to catch up to last year’s totals–hopefully Mother Nature (and some Alaskan lows) will keep coming our way through April!
