Green New Deal: Fact versus Fiction – John Stoessel

Video – The new energy economy “is magical thinking.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal proposes to save the planet. It calls for the United States to reduce carbon emissions to zero in 10 years.

Yes, you read that right ! ZERO carbon emissions in just ten years !!!!
.

.
James Meigs, former editor of Popular Mechanics, tells Stoessel, “That’s a goal you could only imagine possible if you have no idea how the energy economy works or how energy is produced in this country.”

So-called ‘green energy’ is anything but green.

Are electric cars the way to go?

Most people don’t realize that most of America’s electricity – by far – comes from coal and natural gas.

Nuclear looks to be the solution, but people are afraid of it. That fear is unnecessary.

“More people have died falling off roofs installing solar panels than in the entire history of nuclear power in entire U.S.”

“They (the Green New Deal proponents) want to impoversh all of humanity.”

Who would be hurt the most? Poor people. Energy and food would cost more. Meanwhile, it would give money to wealthy people in the form of subsidies to buy hundred-thousand-dollar cars, put expensive solar arrays on their roof, or to be investors in wind farms.

So what’s the verdict?

The Green New Deal would

  • Hurt the Poor
  • Help the already wealthy
  • Cost everyone more
  • And it’s unreliable.

Hardly a win-win situation

  1. It is a Religion. A Belief. It is something for nothing.

All like Religions. Believe in a “GOD” and you will benefit, while sitting on your @ss.

Believe in “Free Energy”, or this “Soylent Green New Deal”, and you will be saved.

Just believe. Just believe in any BS, a dead god, Osiris, the Thunderbird, Thor, …any crap that appeals to you so you don’t have tho think…………………..

  2. I know people who hate oil companies so much they think any price is a good thing if it destroys the oil companies. Many of them think much he same thing about coal companies, and if pressed, seem to believe getting rid of both could stop all mining, and anything else hurtful to their mother.

  3. The arguments pitting fossil fuel against the GND always make me think of “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss”, lyrics from a Who song called ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’, from the 1970’s! Yet, here we are getting fooled again by slick politicians, mass media, and greed! Fossil fuel drove the industrial revolution in America. Now, the Green New Deal, will destroy America!

  4. Nuclear power plants are safe if we assume there will be no wars or geophysical events. Do we not need seat belts because we have not had an accident 99.999% of the time? No, because the consequence of the remaining 0.001% can be disastrous. Should we assume there will never be another war, that big earthquakes or tidal waves will never happen? Again no, and realize that the consquences of a nuclear disaster can poison a land for thousands of years. Nuclear power is safe as long as we don’t look too far into the future. It has not yet withstood the test of time and it is possible we will bitterly regret having gone down that road.

On the other hand, petroleum, gas, and coal are tried and true. They have been through wars and everything. There are disasters there too. Who can forget the Exxon Valdez. Millions of barrels spilled in a pristine environment. But who would know that ten years later? The reality is that the unsubsidized but regulated free enterprise system has delivered a very good but not perfect solution to the need for energy. It took over 100 years to build a distribution system that provides cheap energy to people all over world. Nothing has yet been discovered that is any better. It works and is safer than any of the alternatives. There is no need to mess with it.

    • Thanks to HAARP at Gakona Alaska the nuclear reactors at Fukushima Japan did not stand the test of time. The real villains’ however were those who ordered the transmission of energy aimed at the subduction fault off the coast of Japan on the 8th of March 2011 until March 11, 2011 at 2.5hertz and triggered the magnitude 9+ earthquake…
There are some self appointed super gods in this world that have to be brought to justice.

  5. 1) By reflecting away 30% of ISR the albedo, which would not exist w/o the atmosphere, makes the earth cooler than it would be without the atmosphere like that reflective panel set on the dash. Remove the atmosphere and the earth becomes much like the moon, a 0.1 albedo, 20% more kJ/h, hot^3 on the lit side, cold^3 on the dark. Nikolov, Kramm (U of AK) and UCLA Diviner mission all tacitly agree.

    2) the GHG up/down “trapping”/warming loop requires “extra” energy which it gets from

    3) the surface of the earth radiating “extra” energy as an ideal, .95 emissivity black body which

    4) it cannot do because of the non-radiative contributions of the contiguous atmospheric molecules.

    1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 0 RGHE + 0 GHG warming + 0 CAGW.

All science backed up by experiment, the gold standard of classical science.

  6. Most people are not paying that much attention to the global warming argument, or to energy production. They rely upon the media to tell them what’s going on. If they ARE interested and read a book on the subject it’s apt to be one that comes out of a think tank or is the product of a grant by a foundation.

The media, the think tanks and the foundations are all controlled by a group of billionaires who want to keep their ill-gotten gains and increase their power even further.

The FCC is the executive-branch arm of govt that was supposed to keep the media decentralized. Instead, it permitted centralization from more than 200 major media companies in the 70s to just SIX now.

Trump actually approved a deal for a merger which would have allowed ONE company to broadcast to 70% of Americans. (It later fell through.) Trump could’ve hired a new head of the FCC — one dedicated to breaking up this media monopoly. He didn’t.

He is a mask for the existing powers that be, like Biden.
