Guatemala volcano shoots ash more than a mile into the sky

The Guatemalan geophysical survey SERNAGEOMIN reports increasing explosive activity from Fuego volcano today, one of the country’s most active volcanoes.

Fuego was observed producing ash clouds reaching 4900- 6500 ft (1500-2000 m) above the summit crater, which drifted SW and reached up to 12 miles (20 km) distance where they produced some ash fall, reported in the communities of Panimaché, Morelia, Sangre de Cristo, and Santa Sofía.

  1. So many volcanoes erupting recently. Is this normal? I know for sure that this year will break some records of EQs in the M6-6.9 range and be the highest number of M7-7.9 range in many decades.
    What is up with that?!:)
