“If you’re under 40, you’ve not seen this stuff before.”

Historic Cold Expected To Shatter  Midwest Records.

If you believe in global warming, you’re about to be shocked.

“The weather warnings are dire,” warns the Huffington Post. “Life threatening wind chills. Historic cold outbreak. Bitter cold temperatures.”

Tundra-like temperatures are poised to hammer much of the Midwest starting Sunday, driving the mercury so far below zero that records will shatter… 25 below zero in Fargo, N.D., minus 31 in International Falls, Minn., and 15 below in Indianapolis and Chicago. Wind chills could hit 50, 60 or even 70 below zero.At those temperatures, exposed skin can get frostbitten in minutes.

“All the ingredients are there for a near-record or historic cold outbreak,” said Ryan Maue, a meteorologist for Weather Bell. “If you’re under 40 (years old), you’ve not seen this stuff before.”

As my friend Klaus Kaiser likes lies to put it, we’re looking at “negative global warming.”

  1. Meanwhile, in Europe we are breaking other records. Today in the Netherlands the warmest day in history. It hasn’t even frozen yet this winter. Last year it was the other way around.

  2. the loss of wildlife stock birds etc is going to be astronomical. unless beehives are IN and sheltered and kept warm, they wont make it either.
going to be some follow on effects with massive downsides.
Humans problems will be the least of it.

  3. Frigid temperatures are even plummeting further.

But AlJazeera, the friends of Al Gore, still wants us to believe in global warming. http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2014/1/5/cold-weather-snapbringsconfusionoverclimatechange.html
Data tampering prooves global warming, and the most terrible “cold snaps” are always just weather, never climate, even if one terrible winter comes after another.

  4. Meanwhile, to help the cooling to accelerate even more, in the other side of the world Indonesia’s Sinabung Volcano erupts 50 times in one day,
    http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/17-indonesias-sinabung-volcano-erupts-50-times-in-one-day/

This eruption looks like a ~ VEI 3 and it *could be* the predecessor or a larger one.

I am *not* expecting any VEI 6 eruption for *at least* 1 decade (until mid 2020′s) but a VEI 5 could definitely happen anytime.
I have to check this, but if Mt. St. Helens was the last recorded VEI 5 we’re certainly overdue for another one.

Many volcanoes erupting can bring a little cooling effect all over the world, if they happen continuously and widespreadly.

With the lowering of the present solar cycle (C24) and the continuation of many smaller eruptions, even a VEI 5 could bring an important acceleration of the present cooling trend.

I believe even conditions similar to the year-without-summer (1816) could be reached if a VEI 5 happens and the smaller eruptions continue.

  5. According to the weather man set a new record low this morning of 2 degrees in Tulsa Oklahoma with windchills of -20

  6. I believe I’ve commented about this before, however, I grew up in Northern Illinois in the 50s and 60s. I remember that every winter we had no lack of snow and I specifically remember the temperature getting to 20 below zero on one occasion and 25 below on another. (That was the winter of 65-66 and my car wouldn’t start.) I was talking to my older brother they other day and he remembers 30 below. So, it’s a cycle.

  7. “If you’re under 40, you’ve not seen this stuff before.”
This sounds like something John Casey might have said.

  8. This kind of cold kills.

The actual people who will die as a result of constant cold weather will be unreported.

The theoretical people who “might” die from global warming will continue to make the front page.

  9. It’s amazing how bad the US has been getting hammered – with great exception to the upper west coast in Washington and Oregon. We’re above freezing, have had far below average rainfall, and here in the Seattle, Washington area our ski resorts aren’t even open due to lack of snow on the ground.

The weather is certainly being odd this year and we’ve only just begun winter.

  10. Its impressively cold but not unprecedented. Didn’t Minneapolis hit -32F as recently as 1996 with International Falls even lower? I’m under 40 and I can remember that.
We got -1F last night…first subzero since 2009 but the max temp will likely be our coldest in 20 years.
Let’s not stoop to the AGW level with the slant and stick to the facts.

  11. “If your under 40, you haven’t seen this stuff before.”

Uh, sorry Ryan, that statement is over the top. In Feb 1996 it was so cold, MN broke it’s all time state record of -60F. For a week we saw temps tease daily records and some were broken. Lows -30’s to -50’s, and highs -15 to -25. Lake Superior froze over entirely with 2ft of ice. And, in some cases, it was the snowiest season on record.

So lets try that one again.

      • I don’t know, Robert, if that was or not. Global warming wasn’t really a buzz word around here until the 2000’s. After the 1998 super El Nino, climate changed here in MN. It was more believable.

But now it is mocked, and has been for some time now around here. Our winters are tending colder, and our summers aren’t any hotter than any other time in the record.

That is why the term “Global warming” isn’t used in media anymore, really. We’re not that stupid.

You just keep on posting along with others. Nature will have the last laugh.

I’m just holding Dr. Maue’s feet to the fire. Don’t need to act like the other side. But he may not of realized how cold it got back then either.
