I think it’s important to be careful of our terminology when it comes to describing climate. Otherwise there’s a danger of confusion.

In geological terms, during any time period when there’s a permanent (perennial) ice cap at either pole, Earth is said to be in an ice age. For maybe 85% of geological history, there were no permanent ice caps at the poles, so polar ice caps – and therefore ice ages – are unusual.

Around 34 million years ago, an ice-free Antarctica started to accumulate permanent ice, due to the breaking of the land bridge between Antarctica and South America, which allowed the establishment of the circumpolar ocean current. So, in correct geological terms, Earth has been in an ice age continuously since that time.

The Arctic also grew a semi-permanent ice cap about 2-3 million years ago, although it’s clearly thinner and much more prone to occasional melting. Having a permanent ice cap at BOTH poles at the same time is especially unusual and tells us our planet is currently much colder than normal.

So, we’ve been in the same ice age for 34 million years now. Only the severity of the cold varies, in a cyclical pattern, with full glacial conditions lasting some 90,000-100,000 years interrupted by milder interglacial periods of about 10,000 years in between.

Our current interglacial warm spell, called the Eocene, started around 10,000-11,000 years ago and all of the human history we know of has occurred during that time. But yes, time is running out and the Eocene isn’t going to last very much longer.

We’re going to need a means to keep warm for the next 90,000 years and windmills and solar panels won’t achieve that. We may have enough fossil fuels for the next couple of centuries and atomically fissile and fertile elements like uranium, plutonium, and thorium may give us another thousand years beyond that. But either successful fusion reactors or currently unknown energy sources will be needed for the rest of the imminent glacial period.

The fear of global warming is a contrived fear born of political motives.

  1. This warm period has lasted 18,000 years. There is a village in southwest Jordan that has been excavated, dating back that far. The Syrian towers were built some 15,000 years ago. This is all in an area that was merely warm at that time, compared to now.
This warm period will end when Mother Nature says so. WE have zero control over that. It is past time politicians learned that their perceived real value is slim to none and we do NOT need them to tell us what to do, when or how to do it.

  2. I follow whatever science that catches my eye. My latest curiosity is Randal Mills and his brilliantlight.com website announcements of some interesting stuff.

I would love for someone else to peruse his site and let us all know what you think.

    Thanks

  3. oh no..
    its the UNofficial-“Anthropocene” doncha know
amazing how an unapproved term is being used so widely BY the warmist clowns and not a single media luvvy corrects them

  4. Forget the warmth – it’s all done with that. We are already entering a little ice age and all other cold cycles are due immediately, including the moderate and major ice ages. There is also a 1,400 year cycle due immediately, as well as the magnetic reversal cycle and orbital eccentricity. (part of the major ice ages)

  5. How do we get this information out into the hands of our elected congress and media? There are hundreds of websites that are putting out information that man is not the cause of the Global Warming/Climate Change. There are books going into more detail on how it is not man but nature that is the cause of warming and cooling.

It is hard to compete with the MSM but look at what the little guys, banded together, did with “Gamestop” and they got their message out. Everyone, that believes that Nature controls the weather and climate, needs to work together to get the message out or AOC and her band of merry people will destroy our way of life before we have a chance to prepare for the next little ice age or ice age.

Why not start a “gofundme” to raise funds for ad’s and a platform to join all interested parties so that there is a uniform message that can be relayed to the Congress and the general public via the media?
I’m thinking out loud here just trying to come-up with a way to get the truth out to more people.

    • Wassup??? John the 1st you used to be one of the good guys. Sheesh…and Heavens to Murgatroyd man… we got feelings up here too, eh?

  6. Indeed. Humanity has far more to fear from the cold that a slightly warmer planet. Our advances in technology and agriculture should stand us in good stead but our massive population is unsustainable when the cold comes regardless of improved farming.

  7. “The fear of global warming is a contrived fear born of political motives.”

I have often wondered about the motive behind the “heat trapping thermageddon” alarmism.

Is it motivated by a fear that we are squandering our precious hydrocarbon resources ?

Ar alarmists essentially motivated by a genuine desire to save humanity from its profligate ways ?

Oh wait – the drugs are wearing off and I see I have been raving delusionally.

  8. In PR terms we are losing the battle against the alarmists.
Seems to me that increased crop failures leading to panic over food supplies will be nèeded to convince politicians that the Green Left are totally red and redundant.
