Snow squall warning for parts of Ontario

Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.

19 Dec 2015 – Snow squall warning in effect for Midland – Coldwater – Orr Lake – Orillia – Lagoon City – Washago.

Snow squalls continue to affect areas east of Georgian Bay and are expected to continue well into tonight.

A very intense lake-effect snow band stretches from near the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula towards Mactier and Bracebridge.

The band is expected to slowly shift southward and may affect Midland and Orillia later this afternoon and tonight.

Local snowfall amounts may exceed 20 cm. Reports from the Bracebridge area indicate that nearly 30 cm (12 inches) have fallen there as of early this afternoon.

Very low visibilities in bursts of heavy snow and local blowing snow are also expected.
