Morocco – “Unprecedented” cold and kills three in Chefchaouen

An investigation showed that at least one of the persons had died because of hunger and extreme cold.

23 Dec 2016 – Security forces found three bodies in different areas in the province of Chefchaouen. It is believed that they died due to freezing weather and heavy snowfalls in recent weeks.

Local sources pointed out that the three people had likely died as a result of the sever bitter cold cold sweeping across a number of villages in the Chefchaouen Mountains.

The cold is covering an unprecedented range of areas in Morocco, especially in the mountains, and is causing big problems for residents because of weak health infrastructures, as well as the acute shortage of food supplies and firewood.
