Norway – Snow down to 500 meters

27 Okt 2016 –  Going on the mountain this weekend?
Meteorological Department has issued obs forecast for the mountains of southern Norway, and encourage people to take it easy.

Snow will fall down to 500 meters, said duty meteorologist Ingrid Bentsen at the Meteorological Institute.

This forecast applies to both the counties and Telemark, Buskerud, Oppland and Hedmark.

There are strong winds in combination with snow showers giving difficult driving conditions over the mountain passes.
Exposed areas can wind speeds reach gale.

The areas surrounding Hovden will get snow during the day tomorrow, and you will notice the wind well!

The temperature will fall during the Friday and in the areas surrounding Hovden will be around 2 degrees.

  1. Hi, the report is correct enough, I can easily have it confirmed from my place in Western Norway, by looking out of the window. But it is a completely normal phenomena, and has nothing to do with any ice age. Nor is mountain snow in late September abnormal!

  3. Artic plunge of very cold air forecast for the next 10 days for Scandinavia, and the Baltic states, with Snow down the sea level in many areas. In the latter part of the forecast the South easterly plunge of cold air will flow towards the Iberian Peninsula. The UK will get its portion of cold air easterlies but also strong winds, rain as usual but with periods of cold, and possibly wet snow above 500M
    Look like most of Western Europe is about to go into the freezer. This is winter weather like we used to get in the early Seventies.
