Ontario Resort to Break Record for the Latest Ski Season

Winter is still hanging on at Ontario’s largest ski and snowboard destination.

Although all other ski resorts in Ontario have called it quits on the season, Blue Mountain Resort is planning on turning the chairs at the Silver Bullet Express Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week.

Located just over an hour outside of Toronto, Blue Mountain has confirmed it will surpass its latest ski season on record, celebrating it’s last day on the slopes on Sunday, April 29th.

  1. Latest snow ski report from weathertoski.co.uk says this about the ski season for April 27th:

The last week or so has been unusually warm in the Alps but there remains a huge amount of snow at altitude. Weather conditions will be a bit mixed this weekend but among the better options for a very late ski are Val d’Isère (closes 1 May), Tignes (closes 6 May), Val Thorens (closes 6 May), Cervinia (closes 6 May), Zermatt (open year-round), and Hintertux (open year round).

Val d’Isère has so much snow that they have even announced that (for the first time ever) some non-glacial summer skiing will be available on the Bellevarde mountain, starting on 3 June!

So “huge amounts” of snow in the Alps, first time EVER that non-glacier skiing is available on Bellevarde, but ignore that and instead focus on how EU regulations will save the planet by covering the landscape in wind turbines and biomass imported from Southeast US old-growth forests. I know I will.

    P.S.—The “/sarc” tag is self-evidential.

  2. For now in Barrie, Ontario we are getting spring like weather and I got a buzz cut and cut off my Santa Claus beard. I had the funny idea that there might be a non zero chance of 20 below and 3 feet of snow just to punish me for my optimism and risk taking. Been lucky so far.
