Physician – Masks are useless against the coronavirus

“A con of massive proportions.”
“Putting up a chain link fence will not keep out a mosquito.”
– Simone Gold, MD, JD, FABEM, board certified emergency physician

“It is clear to me as a physician-lawyer that the disinformation about both Covid-19 and the Constitution has caused us to turn a medical issue into a legal crisis,” writes Dr Gold.

“The scientific usefulness of a mask has been so aggressively overstated, and the foundational importance of the Constitution has been so aggressively understated, that we have normalized people screaming obscenities at each other while hiking.

A con of massive proportions

“The Covid virus was supposed to be contained in the kind of lab where people wear astronaut suits and go through triple sealed doors. It is a con of massive proportion to assert that now, having escaped those environs, a bandana will magically do the trick.

After all, size matters.

The pore size of cloth face coverings range from ~ 20-100 microns.   The Covid virus is 200-1000x smaller than that, at 0.1 microns. Putting up a chain link fence will not keep out a mosquito. Even the most esteemed medical journals admit their purpose is to calm anxiety. “Expanded masking protocols’ greatest contribution may be to reduce the transmission of anxiety …”

  1. “May reduce the transmission of anxiety”
Apart from the fact that you have people screaming at passers by for not wearing a mask, I respectfully suggest it has the exact opposite effect and is creating a Soviet style culture of reporting passing strangers, friends, neighbours and family for not wearing them. The entire populous ends up working for the secret police against their own best interests.

  2. Each virus doesnt float around in the air separately. They spread in clumps in a droplet of mucous. Although even virus charged droplets may be well smaller than the pore size of the mask the chances are they will stick yto the mask rather than passing through. Masks are about reducing the percentage the percentage of people getting infected from lightly virus polluted air. They are not about absolutes.

  3. But, masks are great way to virtue signal: “I am protecting the health of all the people that can see my mask.”

  4. It is a religious symbol: The “Scientific Consensus” Religion!

In traditional Islam, non-Muslims must pay the Jizya (non-Muslim tax) if they refuse to convert to Islam.

How much is the fine for not wearing a mask where you live? $500? $1000? (or pounds, etc.)

(Carbon Taxes would be the equivalent of Zakat in Islam or Tithe in Christianity, since everyone pays.)

  5. I’m 100% anti-mask, but if they can filter out oxygen (and they do), they should be able to filter out some of the viruses. But then the viruses are stuck right in front of your mouth anyway along with bacteria in a moist germ incubator.

    • I’m 100% anti-mask, but if they can filter out oxygen (and they do), isn’t low voltage… it’s low wattage.

  6. Actually, the aim of masking is to wipe out small businesses. By saying, as the UK Government now is, that masks must be worn in all public places, including enclosed spaces (which includes all small shops), they are in effect firing the death knell to traditional independent trading businesses on our high streets.

All about giving absolutely everything to the fascist corporations.

  7. sure it wont stop the finest particulates
but for the same reason surgeons wear them
they do stop larger particles escaping from you to others
    and vice versa
on the scale ofthings wearing a mask isnt a bad idea if youre going shopping etc where theres a lot of people and recycled air
while outside in fresh air away from close contact? why would you?
by no means are they a safe pass, staying away from close contact etc is stil a better option;-)
have to admit as a person who isnt touchy feely and living with other humans I dont find life any different.
the ones who need others to prop them up or to feel safe etc might be having a hard time

  8. Size matters. Millions of water droplets are ejected by sneezing, coughing, talking, etc. A single 10 micron droplet can carry thousands of virus particles, and these “bio-aerosols” can drift through the air for more than 20 minutes.

A good fitting N95 grade respirator mask will block 95% of particles greater than 3 microns in size. Cloth face coverings are not as effective, but can help block larger droplets.

(See the reference document “Infections by Bio-Aerosols” from the Louisiana dept of health)

  9. Masks don’t actually work by having a seive size finer than the particle size they’re filtering out. They work by trapping particles on surfaces that particles are travelling over, in a way analogous to dust particles settling on a mirror. That said, they can never be completely effective, and rarely provide a perfect seal. There’s plenty to show them stopping aerosols travelling between wearers but no RCT’s to show that they’re effective in stopping transmission of covid. My own feeling is that they will reduce viral load, which may enable wearers to receive a challenge dose, and therefore immunity.

  10. Masks prevent infected people from propelling mass amounts of virus into the air every time they speak, cough or sneeze.

The South Koreans caught onto this months ago, and thereby greatly reduced their death rate.

Yet we are still struggling with this concept.

Americans are the best argument for the grace of God versus evolution and the survival of the fittest. If the latter were operational, our population would have been decimated long ago, because…

    • Engineered STUPID = selective survival of the fittest… eugenics. There are the times when engineered eugenics is an imperative.

  11. How can something that supposedly keeps thing from getting out, not keep things from getting in?

    • Flimsy masks stop the forward momentum of the air coming from a persons respiratory tract. The person in front of the mask wearer is protected to a degree. The flimsy mask also filters out some of the aerosols and droplets carrying the virus. Better something than nothing.

Unfortunately I read in the article masks are useless which is not true. Of course N95 masks and better offer proper protection. Not a word is written about that.

  12. If you wear glasses you know only too well how poorly they seal, as you’re faced with foggy glasses from the constant upward expulsion of your exhaled breath. So if that’s the case, even if they did in fact filter down to 0.1 micron, you’d still have to have a perfect seal! The sealing is so poor it’s likely that the open passages are equivalent to over 1,000 micron openings or more!
