Rapid magnetic reversals caused mass extinction, says scientist

Also lead to rapid evolution, which I’ve been saying for years.

A new study proposes that the devastating mass extinction at the end of the Ediacaran Period can be connected to rapid reversals in the Earth’s magnetic field.

Geologist Joseph Meert of the University of Florida in Gainesville and his colleagues think the rapid reversals destroyed much of the ozone layer, thus allowing a flood of ultraviolet radiation onto our planet.

Prior to that extinction, large, soft-bodied creatures up to a meter (3.3 feet) across resided beneath a thick, slimy mass of bacteria on the seafloor. Then suddenly, at what is known as the “Cambrian explosion,” a multitude of more complex animal groups inexplicably appear in the geologic record. Opabinia , for example, had five eyes.

Scientists have long argued over what caused the Cambrian explosion, an evolutionary event beginning around 542 million years ago during which most major animal phyla appear in the fossil record.

Meert’s team found evidence (now in press in Gondwana Research) that the reversal rate during the Ediacaran Period was 20 times faster than today. “Earth’s magnetic field underwent a period of hyperactive reversals,” says Meert.

Previous research has suggested that Earth’s protective magnetic field shields life from harmful solar radiation and cosmic rays.

However, the magnetic field would be weaker during periods of frequent reversals. With the shield weakened, ever more high-energy particles would penetrate the planet’s upper atmosphere, which, in turn, would double the amount of UV radiation reaching Earth’s surface.

Many evolutionary changes that occurred during that era could be explained in this way, says Meert.

Vindication! This, of course, is what I’ve been saying for years. I think the weakened magnetic field allows mutation-causing radioactivity to bathe our planet, leading to evolutionary leaps. (See both Not by Fire but by Ice and Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary Leaps.

  1. Robert,
You have been saying this for years. It has to be from a “official” source to make it so, what a joke, sad. 🙁

      1. Yea,now that the tide is turning, time to start learning? I think they may have read your book Robert, either way, good job and thanks. I think NASA will eventually adopt the EU theory from the Thunderbolts Project, I don’t see they have a choice. But it will take time to come out of the playing stupid game.

  2. GOD, according to the Hebrew Bible (Torah), created man and the world. How dare you insult those with FAITH with your Satanic facts? You shall BURN IN HELL for eternity with Gnashing of teeth and Hell-Fire and Brimestone and CALL out for mercy from our Loving God.

Repent. Recant. Remove this post, you racists (just though I would throw that in for the fun of it) SINNERS !!!!! AHHHH

  3. The magnetic reversals better hurry if they want to destroy life-as-we-know-it on this planet-there’s a queue forming.

  4. Robert, it must be gratifying to see more of the scientific community finally coming around to a theory you have been espousing for years. Congratulations on that, and your other great work in tirelessly exposing the global warming — I mean, “climate change” — myths. Will be a tougher sell to turn around grant-seeking “mainstream” scientists and rent-seeking politicians on the latter issue, however, since they will never willingly give up all that lucrative funding they receive for maintaining the fantasy that they are “saving the world.”

  5. Congratulations Robert.
It’s wonderful to have ones work validated by authoritative sources.

I highly recommend your books here and to friends.

Thanks for your work and sharing.

      1. The Inuits aren’t the first to claim the Arctic has been getting more light…I heard a similar story out of Greenland a couple years ago that indeed Greenland had been experiencing more sunlight…

  6. ? do they have any idea of the timeframe for the irradiation?
I would have thought it would need to be in a longer timeframe than the short bursts they use to cause mutations in plants and bugs in labs?

  7. It better hurry up & reverse, or the human race is going to beat Mother Nature to the punch! Fiddlin

  8. Spain, February 29, 2016: A group of 82 people, 15 of them minors, has been evacuated this morning from a shelter from Madrid Cotos, where they had been cut off because of the storm of snow and cold, without food supplies.
Among that group there were 20 who had 15 children: a boy of two years, seven of between 4 and 7 years and 7 over 9-17 years and a woman of 54 years with problems hypertension-were moved from midnight on four SUVs Winter Viability Plan and two Panel Height Rescue (GERA) Civil.
The rest, 61 people had to wait until after three in the morning, time that has come out a relief train from the station Preserves to move the group to Cercedilla. Lograron leave after the machines have managed to clear tracks where there were up to a meter and a half of snow, after six hours of work in very poor weather conditions.

Snow complicates the movement in northern Spain.
29.02.2016 with video. Heavy snow this weekend continued to cause problems in northern Spain. In Aralar, in Navarre, today it was difficult to move without strings although the port remains open to traffic. The situation has generally improved but the snow still has three ports closed in Cantabria.

  9. Congratulations.

I wonder if any of the authors was inspired by your work? Would they admit it if they had been?

    1. No, we were not inspired by his work. I did not know about his work until I landed here today. I will have a look at it now!

  10. Robert, Thank you again for the significant contributions you continue to make in getting people to think and not continue to be just another mooing cow doped by a greedy propaganda machine. Helping people to open their eyes and think, when integrous thinking isn’t cool. Thank you again

  11. And yet they use words like “kook” “crank” and “woo” for you, Robert.
Please refer to that pile of crap calling itself Rationalwiki; a disinfo site…

  12. Thanks for a good laugh, ZrayD1! They’re all too few and far between these days.

Re:The Inuit and shifting of the poles. It seems that a LOT of people confuse magnetic north with the north end of the earth’s axis. When they learn that magnetic north is slipping south, they think the earth is wobbling on its axis.

The remains of wooly mammoths (or was it mastodons?)flash frozen in Siberia with tropical vegetation in their mouths seems to support the possibility of the earth’s axis suddenly changing.

There is a great deal of confusion on this subject.

  13. Here’s a bit of food for thought … a mass extinction itself, could it be the harbinger of the planetary changes … rather than the reverse or the other way around?

The mass of species lost must be animated by a considerable level of energy, of one kind or another … if that energy departs the overall system … does the system drop in energy, accordingly, in accordance with that?

Thus … with a mass extinction … could that potentially usher in an Ice Age … i.e., rather than the other way around?

    Hmm …

  14. Mutations in dna seem quite likely in the event of a magnetic reversal, when cosmic radiation reaches the Earth’s surface more or less unfiltered.
Nevertheless mutations can just be random, if not guided by Higher Intelligence, e.g. through the influence of angelic forces weaving and spinning newer, improved versions of our surrounding nature, which in itself is also guided by Higher Intelligence.
Our universe is characterized by natural degradation or entropic processes, unless countered by the organizing forces of Life, always latent within Mother Nature, also on a more cosmic scale.
To me this seems a totally natural, logical process, evolution or rather mutations through higher, organized intelligence within.
    What else, eh ?

  15. One could surmise and is the basis for my personal belief that
magnetic and geographic pole shifts are simultaneous.

    http://www.timelinetothefuture.com/prepare/possible-earth-events/pole-shift-geographic

Looked at some research from Russian nuclear disaster. Majority of mammal and aquatic life has been shortened and growth stunted from radiation at the most critical areas from the plant. Life remains but not abundantly, with minor or zero physical deformations after several decades since melt down.

After careful studies it is widely believed that any genetic mutations on a large scale would take hundreds of years before notable regents appear.

  16. If it’s any consolation, Robert, you’re probably going to be one of those scientists whose genius is not recognized by the establishment til long after he’s dead!

If there’s anyone left a hundred years from now, they’ll be doing dissertations on you and your work.
