“The key word here is ‘record,’ says reader Randall Tilloston. “We’ll probably be seeing that a lot in the future.
The first ski area in British Columbia to open this season is Cypress Mountain, which is opening its ski runs today.
“We are very excited today to have the EARLIEST OPENING DAY IN OUR HISTORY and to be the FIRST SKI AREA IN BRITISH COLUMBIA TO OPEN for the 2011/12 Snow Season!” crows the Cypress Mountain website.
“Early snowfall means that Grouse Mountain could also open any day now, said public-relations manager Sarah Lusk on Monday.”
“I was just up there and the place is already a winter wonderland,” she said. “There is tons of snow up there, 14 centimetres since [Monday] morning. … We’re watching very closely now.”
