Record early start for B.C. ski season

“The key word here is ‘record,’ says reader Randall Tilloston. “We’ll probably be seeing that a lot in the future.

The first ski area in British Columbia to open this season is Cypress Mountain, which is opening its ski runs today.

“We are very excited today to have the EARLIEST OPENING DAY IN OUR HISTORY and to be the FIRST SKI AREA IN BRITISH COLUMBIA TO OPEN for the 2011/12 Snow Season!” crows the Cypress Mountain website.

“Early snowfall means that Grouse Mountain could also open any day now, said public-relations manager Sarah Lusk on Monday.”

“I was just up there and the place is already a winter wonderland,” she said. “There is tons of snow up there, 14 centimetres since [Monday] morning. … We’re watching very closely now.”

  1. One of the reasons I started researching “global warming” on my own more than 10 years ago was because the climate “experts” and mainstream media were screaming that ski resorts would have to shut down due to lack of snow…but now with early snowfall and record snowfall every season they say that “global warming” actually causes more snow (and cold?). Nothing more than Orwellian doublespeak and attemped mind control.

    • It’s the same reason I started researching climate change on my own, i.e., they said that the ski industry in Colorado would die because of global warming. That was at least 10 to 15 years ago. I believe the predicted date for the end of the ski industry was around 2004.

I’ve been an avid skier for 40 years, and at 64 I still ski the blacks with style although much more slowly.

I guess the AGW proponents were wrong about the end of the ski industry just as they have been wrong about every other dire prediction. It’s the old story of the boy who cried “Wolf!” Many people have stopped listening.

    • I remember reading about that those predictions way back in the late 90’s with a huge thud of grief in my hart since i LOVE skiing and snowboarding so much. Then the 2004 winter happened and i started looking into the whole AGW theory and decided that its more a religion and MASSIVE tax grab then actual science. The last nail in the coffin for me was when i read about the svensmark cosmic rays theory 4 1/2 years ago……. Its all about the sun in the end.

  2. It would be advisable to invite Al Gore to testify about the effect of global warming. It is so hot that is cooling!

  3. We live 100 miles south of BC. 3 of the past 4 years have had “record” snow and cold. Another colder and snowier winter is expected this year. If this keeps up their “average” records will be shifted.
