Record November snowfall in Switzerland

The snowfall record for the entire month of November has been broken and ski stations at Saas Fee and Saas Grund are cut off.

Heavy snow hit parts of Switzerland over the weekend (Nov 16 and 17), bringing the monthly total up to 71 cm (28 inches) in Santa Maria, in the country’s east. This broke the previous record of 69 cm (27 inches), also set in Santa Maria, in 1959.

  1. Adriatic weather observation:
Very Large Blocking High centred over Western Russia has generated a south easterly compression zone between the large Low pressure system centred in the UK western approaches, that low is forecast by UK Met to transition south east over France and into the Med to the west of northern Italy over this weekend.
Current UK Office Forecast indicates a compression zone extending from Corfu the length of the Adriatic during Sunday and Monday of this week. Most Italian rivers are in flood condition. Venice might get wet again during the high tide periods Sunday to Tuesday.
Thank goodness this isn’t January or the UK would have had 3ft of snow to deal with. However, most European Alpine Regions are going to see significant Snow/rain falls during this period, stay safe everybody.
