Record snowfall in southeastern Newfoundland

Breaks record, not just for the day, but for entire month of November.

The almost 12 inches (30 cm) of snow measured at the St. John’s International Airport broke the November record of just over 25 cm) (10 inches) that fell on Nov. 19, 1980.

The wintry wallop on the hard-hit Avalon Peninsula also brought wind gusts of almost 36 miles (60 km) an hour at the St. John’s airport, and 60 miles (100 km) an hour at Cape Race, N.L.

Not surprisingly, police advised St. John’s residents to stay off the roads.

Another few centimeters of snow were expected throughout the day.
