Santorum – AGW “just an excuse for more government control of your life”

“I’ve never…accepted the junk science behind the whole narrative,” says Santorum.

Three cheers for Rick Santorum!

‘The idea that man through the production of CO2, which is a trace gas in the atmosphere and the manmade part of that trace gas is itself a trace gas is somehow responsible for climate change is, I think, just patently absurd when you consider all of the other factors, El Nino, La Nina, sunspots,” says Santorum. “There’s a variety of factors that contribute to the earth warming and cooling.”

Earlier this year, Rush Limbaugh asked presidential hopeful Rick Santorum for his views on man-made global warming.

Here’s how it went:

RUSH: Mitt Romney in his announcement earlier this week in New Hampshire said, yes, he believes there is global warming, and, yes, he thinks human beings are contributing to it. Do you?

SANTORUM: I believe the earth gets warmer, and I also believe the earth gets cooler, and I think history points out that it does that and that the idea that man through the production of CO2 which is a trace gas in the atmosphere and the manmade part of that trace gas is itself a trace gas is somehow responsible for climate change is, I think, just patently absurd when you consider all of the other factors, El Nino, La Nina, sunspots, you know, moisture in the air.

There’s a variety of factors that contribute to the earth warming and cooling, and to me this is an opportunity for the left to create — it’s a beautifully concocted scheme because they know that the earth is gonna cool and warm. It’s been on a warming trend so they said, “Oh, let’s take advantage of that and say that we need the government to come in and regulate your life some more because it’s getting warmer,” just like they did in the seventies when it was getting cool, they needed the government to come in and regulate your life because it’s getting cooler.

It’s just an excuse for more government control of your life, and I’ve never been for any scheme or even accepted the junk science behind the whole narrative.

Meanwhile, Romney sought advice on global warming from Obama Advisor John Holdren who claims Arctic could be ice-free in WINTER.

  1. If the arctic is to be ice free in WINTER, John Holdren would do well to know what the temperature is in mid winter in the Arctic. He’ll find the Danish monitoring service has its answer. Although the temp. may fluctuate on a daily basis up to 15 degrees centigrade above average, it is still plenty, plenty below zero.

John Holdren, therefore, probably thinks that the whole earth will heat up 10 degrees, so the Arctic can heat up 30 – 40 degrees.

Rather unlikely I would have thought….

  2. Yes, then they get that phone call and suddenly their opinions change to conform to the ‘necessary’ position of their advisors, always from the same clubhouse.

  3. But if you want a true conservative who isn’t in favor of unconstitutional, unending wars, look no further than Ron Paul, who would get us out of the UN, much less countenance the IPCC, who wouldn’t cut back the EPA a little, but eliminate it.
If you want gun control, and wars, vote Rick. If you want a balanced budget and sound economy Ron Paul is your man:

“As President, Ron Paul will lead the fight to:

    * Remove restrictions on drilling, so companies can tap into the vast amount of oil we have here at home.

    * Repeal the federal tax on gasoline. Eliminating the federal gas tax would result in an 18 cents savings per gallon for American consumers.

    * Lift government roadblocks to the use of coal and nuclear power.

    * Eliminate the ineffective EPA. Polluters should answer directly to property owners in court for the damages they create – not to Washington.

    * Make tax credits available for the purchase and production of alternative fuel technologies.

It’s time for a President that recognizes the free market’s power and innovative spirit by unleashing its full potential to produce affordable, environmentally sound, and reliable energy.”

    • Ron who..? Ooooh yeah, that guy, the one who wants to legalize drugs. That outta solve some problems … NOT!

      • Come on Frank. Do we need to continue spending millions and millions of dollars on a failed “war on drugs policy”? This is where I have a very Libertarian point of view. If an adult wants mess up his body and mind by taking drugs why should the government make laws against that? If somebody forces / pushes drugs on others or especially children then I agree there should be laws against it. But our country should not be locking up adults who are potheads.

        • Kevin your idea is juvenile. To say let’s legalize drugs so we can save millions of dollars is bunk! To legalize drugs will force us to spend billions on more drug babies, drug rehab, suicide, increased auto and industrial accidents, family violence, low income dental health, nursing home care, AIDS, venereal disease, and too many other issues to list here. Having worked as an Educator and as a Health Care Professional, with family in Law Enforcement, I can assure you these problems exist and drug abuse factors into all of them. With legalization of drugs we will see new problems arise, as well as a dramatic increase in the existing problems. The Societal Costs of legalizing drugs far outweighs any potential savings.

We already have significant problems with underage drinking, second hand smoke, and teen smoking. How many more children do you want to subject to second hand pot smoke? How many more children do you want to see smoking pot because mommy and daddy do it?

Legalization of drugs is a cop out.

          • Sounds like you would like to make smoking tobacco and drinking illegal. Your argument is a “straw man argument”. I never said pass the pot to children. I never said let people smoke pot and drive or come to work under the influence. Use the exact same laws as driving drunk. If you drive while under the influence of pot you go to jail. If you come to work under the influence of pot you get fired. Is it your goal to protect society or try to protect the pothead from himself or herself? Maybe instead of legalizing drugs the country should look at decriminalizing drug use. Send the pushers and dealers to jail BUT confiscate the drugs from the “users” and fine them $50. Jail time for users is absurd.

            • Kevin, having taught school for years and having worked as a health care professional and having family in law enforcement I can assure you that legalizing drugs will, through increased exposure, put all children at greater risk. It will also dramatically increase the number of people needing medical and dental services as well as increase the number of people who need nursing home placement. Hereto, I never said I am against alcohol or tobacco… that is your assumption; an incorrect one at that. To point out the present difficulties presented by the legal use of alcohol and tobacco does not make me in favor of their illegality.

In your argument you continue to refer to ‘potheads’ as though they were the only ones involved. The fact is that Ron Paul is in favor of legalizing all illicit drug use. But, even if it were just a question of decriminalizing ‘Pot,’ that still poses tremendous societal problems which can, and will, be a detriment to the lives of millions of non- ‘potheads.’ Just in dollars alone, the legalization of ‘Pot’ and/or other drugs will cost society far more than will be saved.

I know that you are in favor of decriminalizing Pot. Nothing I say here will change your mind. Experience is the best teacher. Had you walked where I have been, I can assure you, you would be singing a different tune about legalizing drugs.

As it is, your mind is made up. I suppose it is now up to the readers here to draw their own conclusions as to whether they would like to live in the world you envision.

              Caveat emptor

  4. Would also prefer Ron paul above all the other Republican candidates. Tired of spending trillions and sending our young men to die on foreign soil while fighting neverending unnecessary wars!

  5. Mr. Santorum has been saying the right things his whole life. He doesn,t stray like a lot of the other fair weather Republicans. Oh, by the way, I am an independent! He has my VOTE!

  6. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; It doesn’t matter to the US government that global warming is a huge lie. They see a potential revenue source through taxing the very air that we breath, you really think the corrupt federals are gonna let that get away???

  7. Mr. Santorum is exactly right– and Mister Sun has virtually EVERYTHING to do with changes in global warming (and cooling for that matter). We might as well be ants crawling around on the face of the earth when thinking about the total energy output (including atomic bombs or energy) produced by humans in history thus far, compared to the total energy of “gazillo-watts” by the sun– even the narrow wedge of total energy of the sun that reaches the earth (you astronomists know how to calculate the “wedge of solar energy” that reaches us) just dwarfs anything ever produced by mankind– by common sense, it is just LUDICROUS to think we possess the faculties to even nudge the climate into changing in either direction, EVER.
