Seals stranded in Canadian town by too much ice

There are concerns that they will starve to death.

“Stranded seals wreak havoc in Canadian town,” reads the headline. But it’s not until the fourth paragraph when you learn that they were stranded after nearby waters suddenly froze over, preventing their return to the ocean.

“They are 4 or 5 miles from the ocean and are probably starving,” says one entry on Twitter.

More than 40 of the stranded seals are blocking traffic and the entrances to homes and businesses in Roddickton-Bide Arm, Newfoundland.

“There’s seals on the road, there’s seals in people’s driveways, the backyards, the parking lots, the doorways, the businesses,” the town’s Mayor Sheila Fitzgerald told CBC News.

Two of the animals died after being struck by a car.

Many images on social media show the seals stranded on roads and large banks of snow.

  1. oh ffs!
they could travel the distance to open water..if guided there, and as for starving?
seals have damned good fat reserves for a reason and its not just buoyancy and cold protection.
their biggest threat is dumb humans as evidenced by car deaths

  2. This is the down side, in animal terms to meridonial Jet stream activity and instant cooling. At least the seals are not being preyed on by Polar Bears yet, just well meaning greenies blaming to sudden onset of winter on the AGW fraud and using them for propagander.
10,000 years ago a herd of Mammoth became trapped in what is now a frozen perma frost bog in Russia
The above during the last Younger Dyras event but well before the 8500K event.

  3. Looks like that German forecaster (from the other article below) was very wrong about his statement on rising North Pole temps! He needs to stop watching the liberal EU news media.
How can they even stand watching that insanity anymore? They need to smash their televisions.

  4. The “environmentalist” didn’t seem to rejoice when “all the Polar Bears are dying”……….had that happened, these precious little cute seals wouldn’t be eaten alive, now would they?

Gee, just which way to these weenies want it?

    • now theres a thought
they could ship a couple of hungry polar bears down to help the locals with the excess seals;-)
      and when they run out?
volunteers from the warmists to keep them fed;-) lol

      • The ignorant “Warming” losers said that Polar Bears were dying from the heat…..and showed photo-shopped fake news pictures of Polar Bears floating away on ice pads…really fake news…that’s who.

Polar bears don’t die from heat or cold…they are smarter than us and “know” to migrate THOUSANDS of miles for food, as they have been probably doing for 5 millions years, before stupid-ass Democrat environmental losers thought up “global warming”

  5. Amazing ! Poor seals !

We have a tourist attraction in West Wales,UK, called Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park [] .
Visitors flock here to view Atlantic Grey Seals [ and dolphins] in the wild from safely fenced cliffs. Luckily, we never have ice problems. It is mild here at the moment and been dry since before Christmas.
The seals breed in the caves below the cliffs of the Farm Park. They lead a charmed life compared to those Canadian seals.
We are 52 degrees north, but due to the Gulf Stream, we generally have mild winters. If a HIGH settles over southern Sweden, the wind will swing around it clockwise and emanate from Siberia. Then it will get colder. It could happen in a few weeks……..but our seals will NEVER suffer !!
