Second-highest volcano in North America erupts multiple times in 24-hour span

Video – Popocatépetl Volcano, located just 43 miles (70 km) from Mexico City, Mexico,”erupted over seven times in 24 hours.” This is according to MSN.com.

I assume that “over seven times” means at least eight times.

According to volcanodiscovery.com, explosive activity continues. The Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Washington warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 21000 ft (6400 m) altitude.

  1. Volcanic Activity can reduce the am’t of Solar Irradiation reaching Earth’s Surface… All things equal – that should equate to a reduction of Earth’s Temp.

  2. Care to send some of your ice age my way? I’m so sick of these damned warm nights! The PNW is having a top 5 warmest August after a slightly warmer then normal July (which had some chilly mornings!) but now it’s hard to get lows below 60F Yet daytime highs are around average. Portland has had NO official heatwave this year but a 90F tossed in for Tuesday which means 94Fish down here and a bunch of 88F type forecasts!

    Really bizzare stuff and the EURO models flubbed this year showing major heat within 5 days only to take it away. It’s doing it again. The last few years it would pfredict cold air when there was none present or any setup for such!

    It’s been muggy in the afternoons and just around sunrise though nothing by back east east standards! It’s an unfair competition.

  3. BTW: This is NOT an eruption this is a rumbling. A true eruption would’ve had cities evacuated and a hell lot more coverage.

    This kind of stuff (rumblings) have been in increasing frequency making me wonder when we start having serious eruptions. It should be putting stress on our volcanoes in the PNW.

  4. That Hawaii volcano almost went to full eruption status. Now THAT was scary as there actually was some damage including a school being destroyed but it was still a rumbling. A BIG rumbling. It fell just short of erupting so the media cut all press about it.

    I still don’t know what happened as they were all excited then suddenly back to Trump he said she said crap.

  5. The issue is these days that with world population increase there are now many more millions inhabiting very risky tectonic or volcanic areas with historical disasters.

    Vesuvius near Naples. Buried Pompeii in AD79. Today there are literally millions living in the same volcanic eruption run out paths.
    Popo in Mexico – untold millions living in harms way. Mexico City itself is in range of a very large eruption.

    In Italy – the first decade of last century – 20,000 people perished in Earthquakes. Now there are hundreds of thousands living in those same zones

  6. Well Popo is over 17,000 feet tall so a plume rising to 21,000 feet is pretty minor stuff. It also has a large deposit of sulphur. No doubt the reason for the yellow plume.

Though most ignore the fact, Earth’s 12,250-year Holocene Interglacial Epoch that began some 14,400 YBP ended 12,250 + 3,500 – 14,400 = AD 1350 (Roman calendar, skewed 1,500 years by the Younger Dryas “cold shock” that ended 10,450 YBP), coincident with Kamchatka’s strato-volcano Kambalny Eruption followed by a 70-year Grand Solar Minimum similar to that of 1645 – 1715.

AD 2110+.

    From AD 1350 – 1420, similar astro-geophysical circumstances combined to reduce Earth’s human population by two-thirds (!) from famine, freezing, and disease. Should anything similar be in the offing –and such cyclical fluctuations are by no means unusual– our only recourse will be to arise off Dustmote Earth en masse to gigantic intra-solar refugia safely removed from such exigencies.

    On this basis, changes seen from c. AD 1725 to 2030+ will be as nothing compared to Century 21 et seq.
