Sixteen inches of snow for Montana

A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service on Friday forecast up to 9 inches of snow in lower elevations

of Gallatin and Madison counties through Saturday. Up to 16 inches of snow was forecast for higher elevations.

If you must travel, the advisory said, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center said the mountains already had 4 feet of snow as of Friday morning.
