Snow in Slovenia in August

28 Aug 2018 – Snow closed the road to Mangart and whitened Kredarico.

Kredarica has already snow, while rain and snow mix on Vršič. According to the traffic information center (PIC), the road to Mangart is closed due to the snow covered road. Precipitation will get worse during the day

The Triglav Lodge at Kredarica, which stands at an elevation of 8,251 feet (2,515 m), is the highest mountain hut in Slovenia and the highest meteorological station in the country.

Is snow at this elevation in Slovenia unusual? I don’t know. But I’m thinking that Slovenians need not worry about global warming this year.

  1. early winter indeed
so what number are we up to now?
early snows and colder overall temps
must be a least 4 by now
2 more and we are in trouble

  2. ps this while we copped a large cat 7 geomag storm showing auroras as low as indiana and in NZ down sth too.
first larger opposite pole sunspot turned up and is fading fast
cycle 25 might be in the very early stages of kicking into gear.

  3. I had a quick look at the Slovenian climate and no mention of snow in August even in the mountains. Rain and thunderstorms and chilly nights but not snow. The Wyoming weather advisory states “early snow” so unexpected. With few sun-spots and a weakening corona, and another grand solar minimum just a year or two away, we could be seeing mountain roads closed in August on a regular basis,. Interesting times.
