Spin – Spin – Spin

How a temperature decline miraculously became a temperature rise.

Yesterday I posted an article saying that “World temperatures have barely risen in the past 20 years.”

“Actually, this article is gross disinformation,” says reader Lloyd Robins. “Note that it states “Temperatures across the globe rose by around a third of a degree last year from the average of 14 degrees Celsius recorded between 1961 and 1990,” when in reality the temperature rose far more than that to 1998, plateaued at that point, then dropped again from there to present day temperatures.

“It didn’t rise at all last year, in fact,” says Lloyd. “But they have to write these things to make everything fit with the idea that even if the temperature rise slows down, it’s still rising, as per the Church of Global Warming. How are they going to deal with this year’s temperature drop? They’ll have to go back to the Dalton Minimum so they can say the temperature this year “rose” from then….”

Thanks to Lloyd Robins for this excellent clarification.

  1. Exactly what is wrong with the way they state things? Why can’t they say that the impact on the rise of the temperature was -.5 degrees? After all, we all read last week that the impact of the growth of the glaciers in Asia impacted the rising sea level by -.1mm.

Again, it is an example of facts getting in the way of skimming an article. They recognize that a society that deals with numbers only as a last resort, allowing any and all machines to do it for them if possible, the data, the quoted number, if you will, will basically be ignored, thus it’s the wording that matters.

By saying “the glacier growth impacted the rising sea level by” they know the number is not going to have meaning to most readers, so the reader will assume that the sea level is still rising, not equating the -.1mm to anything meaningful.

They merely have to say that the climate rose in temperature over that last 20 years by X, knowing fully well that the statement is basically true, supports their agenda, and off handedly acknowledges that the temperature is in decline with out ever having to say so.

Personally, I think it is a masterpiece of BS because it works for them. It couldn’t in an educated society, like the one that existed, say in the 60s and 70s, but in todays dumbed down world, it is pure gold.

  2. Figures don’t lie, but liars figure. The liars who now push “climate change” instead of “global warming” are still hard at work because the mindless idiots who recite any anti-humanity fraud still keep reciting. Thanks for the clarification on that lying article. Climatic temperatures today are more like those in the 1930s, or even the 1890s, than the 1960s. This year we are seeing weather patterns reminiscent of snow records set in the 1880s. But the useful idiots are blind.

  3. Anyone with a skeptics eye will immediately recognize the spin here. Even if it were a completely honest article the amount of temp rise is not statistically significant. The dates quoted are bizarre 1961 to 1990? What an odd time frame to choose. Are we to ignore the next 21 years?
I wonder if this is perhaps a way to begin gently nudging the global warming folks with economic suicidal ideations back from the edge?
As we have been saying for decades now there is no agw but if the mainstream media and academia were to suddenly and violently throw that train into reverse it would be catastrophic (even though I would love to see it happen). By gently edging away from the ledge maybe we can talk these folks down.

  4. Regardless, most who read it will believe temps are rising out of control.
“Anyone with a skeptics eye”, when it comes to global warming, there are not that many skeptics

  5. So long as the climate zealots like Dr. James “Thumbs On The Temperature Scale” Hansen are in charge of “homogenizing” and “enhancing” the surface temperature data, the temperature will always be revised upwards, even if it is going down.

  6. You can go here to see the satellite measured temps: http://discover.itsc.uah.edu/amsutemps/

Check 5 km height for lower troposphere. If you compare 2010 to 2012, and 2011 to 2012, it is very clear the temperature dropped from 2010-2011 and so far in 2012 its tracking pretty closely with 2011, although there were some points when it dropped below 2011.

  7. Get ready for the next few years. If it gets cooler because of solar activity changes as some astronomers are predicting, the warming crowd is going to panic and get even more vehement about “climate change”. It’s going to be interesting and skeptics need to keep speaking out – even if it cools in the next couple of years.

  8. as many point out,
isn’t it amazing that NO data or model ever shows temps going down..
and the latest ploy of relabelling Past temps as cooler is devious and effective for so many won’t and don’t stop to think or reason further than a sound bite on idiot box says.
