Cold afflicts people of high Andean zones

Imminent danger of low temperatures prompts state-of-emergency declaration for two districts in the Huancavelica region.

According to the Presidency of Council of Ministers, districts are Pilpichaca emergency declared – Huaytará and New Occoro – Huancavelica.

The Regional Government of Huancavelica is obliged to take immediate and necessary measures aimed at reducing vulnerabilities actions.

Also, sectors of health, education, housing, transport and others should take appropriate action.

Districts of New Occoro and Pilpichaca have been prioritized as areas of high risk, influencing factors such as poverty, so exposure to low temperatures are much more likely to its inhabitants living in highlands.

  1. Accordingly to Peruvian National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (SENAMHI) http://www.senamhi.gob.pe/?p=0140&tip_alert=022 ,rapid fall of nighttime temperatures down to -18C is expected from Thursday evening on. Duration period is estimated as 84 hours. Low temperatures are expected to descend on almost the entire length of the Peruvian Andes, except the areas bordering Ecuador.

  2. well at least this time they have tried to pre warn the people
how many can or have the ability to do much? except maybe get animals closer to houses for shelter for a change…I guess we see in the aftermath reportage.
really do hope they dont have the huge losses of prior intense cold events.
you sorta hope theyve worked it out by now.

  3. Keep your eye on high altitude and high latitude regions. These are the transitional areas that will begin to see unusual cold and snow (for time of year) first.
