“Terrible storm of snow in Istanbul”

Thus reads the headline on yenisafak.com

29 Dec 2016 – In Istanbul, the rain has turned to snow in the high places. On the Anatolian side, at the Başbüyük Forest road in Maltepe, around 13.00, the snowfall started around the Bosphorus.

(..) It is estimated that the thickness of the snow may be 5 centimeters in the coastal areas and 10-20 cm (4 to 8 inches) in the interior and higher sections.

Citizens were asked to be cautious about adverse weather conditions.

(Four to eight inches of snow doesn’t sound all that terrible to me, but maybe in Istanbul????)

  1. I read a history of weather where the snow drifted to the tops of the walls of Istanbul and that you could see the tops of icebergs floating by.
