The global panic is unnecessary and exaggerated, says leading virologist

‘People think this virus is going to attack them all, and then they’re all going to die,’ says Prof. Jihad Bishara. ‘Not at all. In fact, most of those infected won’t even know it’. ‘Calm down!’ ‘People are being whipped into unnecessary panic.’

Prof. Jihad Bishara, director of the Infectious Disease Unit at Petah Tikva’s Beilinson Hospital, said that some of the steps being taken in Israel and abroad were very important, but the virus is not airborne, most people who are infected will recover without even knowing they were sick.

“I’ve been in this business for 30 years,” Bishara said in a Channel 12 interview. “I’ve been through MERS, SARS, Ebola, the first Gulf war and the second, and I don’t recall anything like this. There’s unnecessary, exaggerated panic. We have to calm people down.

“People are thinking that there’s a kind of virus, it’s in the air, it’s going to attack every one of us, and whoever is attacked is going to die,” he said.

“It’s not in the air. Not everyone [who is infected] dies; most of them will get better and won’t even know they were sick, or will have a bit of mucus.”

  1. Yes, but if you are clueless,
it is far easier to tell the Calif and NYC drones
to stay home than it is to do anything useful.
….after all, it isn’t your paycheck that gets lost!

  2. I have had to take this seriously, but I agree with the outrage about the panic. But that is the fault of the media, that in the west, generally means it is reflecting what the governments want. Having said that, I am now cast as a tinfoil hat wearer.

It was Denmark’s passing a law to make vaccination for COVID-19 mandatory that was the first tipoff that something doesn’t add up. And now I see there is a move afoot to test for anti-bodies so as to establish the number of people that have been infected but not showing serious signs or issues.

In the case of Denmark, the only way you could insure that everyone is vaxxed would be by “tagging” them at the same time with an RFID chip, thus if you didn’t trip a reader, you hadn’t been vaxxed. IN the second case of anti-body testing, what a clever way to complete your DNA data bank so that you have the DNA of every citizen on file.

In both cases, it is just my creative imagination(and mistrust of governments) feeding the theory, but if I have thought of it, so has someone else, and that person may be in a position to “make it happen.”

Freedom IS free, but what most people call freedom is only what a government will allow them to do, and costs dearly.

    • if you do have antibodies then theres no sane reason to vaccinate
if you have had it so mildly then your blood would be a very useful help to create some antibody therapy to help save others
seeing as they havent even come close to a vaccine you have time to campaign against ridiculous mandates. but its a nation that likes lots of rules n regs and the people are well trained to obey looking from outside
im curious as to how many of the (we made it a slum-dwelling )invaders get crook and create pandemonium when they do.
similar types are roaming the streets in close areas of italy and spain I have seen on filmclips. police be hard pressed to manage them in normal times let alone now.

  3. Absolutely True…Most will recover…Unfortunately, 6.9 Million in the US may not, according to Dr. Paul Cottrell, if people continue to diss the virus and not take it seriously. Will a cure be found? Who knows…Will a good treatment be found? Who knows…Until one is found, I don’t want to be a statistic. Israel locked down the Country and got a handle on this thing. The US would need to keep everyone apart by gun point and isn’t likely even then, people around me still refuse to take anything seriously except the toilet paper shortage…Which seems to be the new world currency…Worldometers shows resolved cases with a 10% mortality rate. The US could soon be the Titanic, not because the Captain doesn’t see the iceberg this time, but because the party goers onboard are screaming full speed ahead “ it’s just a small piece of ice sticking up” Optimists are great and I love Trump, but on Feb.26 he said there are only 15 cases and they would be tamped down in a few days…Today, 3 weeks later, we’re approaching 18,000 infected
and have 225 deaths, with the exponential growth rate, still rising on schedule…Flattening the Curve is a must, by any means necessary….Believe It.

  4. The human race would never have survived this long if half of what the panic pushers are saying is true.

  5. Blame the climate alarmists and the UN – they have been spreading nonsense apocalyptic climate scare stories for decades now.

Look at Australia in recent months – from late September to February we were subjected to endless disaster stories, always accompanied by video showing an orange glow in the thick smoke, but as horrible as our fires were they were not the end of the world story cause by mankind’s carbon sinning being repeatedly shoved down our throats !

Rather they were the result of an once in “x” number of years failure of a normal wet season in Eastern Australia.

When the rain came, late to be sure, and put all fires out as well as breaking a 4 or 5 year drought the media didn’t celebrate however !

No, instead they switched to the next apocalyptic scare stories about COVID 19.

And since then they have relentlessly continued in the same vein of “we’re all gunna die” BS causing an already stressed population to lose all reason.

The COVID 19 virus may or may not be worse than other similar influenza viruses – only time will tell – but I doubt the media will give the unbiased answer – the truth is always the casualty of media sensationalism !

    • In the meantime, the UK has almost come to a standstill, and yet the government is STILL allowing flights to come in from China, and other countries. No mention of that on the BBC website. Wonder why?

  6. Indeed the corona virus is far from being the plague.
The plague will freak people out and then some.
Plague is not unusual when there are mini ice ages and we need to be ready for such disease outbreaks.
    Look up Yersina Pestis.

  7. In a book I read “The Oil and the Glory: The Pursuit of Empire and Fortune on the Caspian Sea” I read years ago, I remember reading that it was this month 100 years ago Lenin took down Baku, which was then the oil capitol of the world:

This move took down the oil industry there and the US became the oil King, with you know who as the head cheese.
BP ended up with the oil and NG from the Caspian after the USSR fell, which now flows through Turkey via pipelines to a port just North of Syria.

So , my point is, 100 years later the Communists just took out the US oil industry, using a bio weapon. even if it’s just from panic which is worse than the bug. And, yes the frackers will be back when demand goes back up and they can get credit.
    In Debt We Trust.

  8. I just ignore all that. We are working and everything is fine where I’m at!
We’re all healthy here. It’s total bullshit!

It’s the NWO and the globalist establishment with their plan to destroy Trump’s economy and achievements. They tried 2 scandals against him already and they failed miserably. This is the third one. You can easily see the pattern here.
The deep state can also be involved here. Ever heard of chemtrails? They experiment with that and if successful, they start to spread some kind of virus to a certain country to make it look less suspicious at first, then bring it here. People will think it’s all natural because it started somewhere else. Then once it hits the USA, they use the blow up liberal media to spread fear mongering onto the American people with the intention to slow or destroy the economy. It’s always the goal of the liberal establishment and elitists to destroy this country.

    • This is far bigger than just Trump. This is the UK, France, Spain, Italy, they are after China, Russia, India, everywhere.

I just do not get why the names of those holding a gun to the politicians’ heads are not circulated so the world can go bump ’em off?

  9. remember all the other fear mongering since the 80′ whenever the economy improved?

It happened under Reagan in 1984 and 85 with the Aids and nuclear scare scare during times of economic success. It failed.
It happened in 2003 with the SARS scare during a time of economic recovery when Bush was President. It failed.
It also happened in 1999 with the Y2K scam just when the economy improved from the Oriental slump in 1998. That failed.
Other scandals included the ozone layer fear mongering and climate change scare – once again intended to destroy the USA with socialist policies. That brings us to today with 2 more scandals as of late and now the virus scandal.
Now go back to work and party!

    • Yep! First off, let’s look at the statistics from the CDC on the number of deaths in the US from influenza and pneumonia for 2017 (the most recent year available): 50,633. The mortality rate in this country from the flu varies year to year from about 0.1% to about 0.3%, with the worst year being about 0.5%. For context, the Swine Flu (2009-10) resulted in an estimated total of 60 million Americans being infected, with some 300,000 hospitalizations and about 17,000 deaths (these numbers can be easily verified). The key here is “estimated” infections.

Now let’s look at COVID-19. As of 11 am today, there were 260 deaths and a total of 19,624 confirmed cases. That is a mortality rate of 1.3%. This is unacceptably high, agreed. But here is the catch. Does anyone believe that the number of people in the US affected is really only 19,624? Isn’t it strange that we have always been playing catch-up when it comes to the number of test kits available? I would say that there **at least **10 times more people affected than are known. That would make the mortality rate 0.13%.

So, this begs the obvious question: Why the hell is no one comparing apples to apples? That, is, why is no one calculating the death rate based on the estimated number of cases? Why do you never hear about that number? Why do these “experts” only talk about the rising number of confirmed cases and the rising number of deaths? Do you think there might be another agenda at play here? If you think that’s not possible, watch the video I posted earlier.

Rather than quarantining everyone, how about redirecting that effort to protecting the elderly, the only segment for which there is an unacceptable risk? Why take down an entire economy? Ya think it just might be to establish a One World Order? Trump had better wake up to the fact that his expert agencies which he relies upon may not be giving his the best advice. (By the way, my wife’s 94-year old mother lives with us, so I am quite concerned about not bringing the virus into the house, and we do much in that regard.)

      Finally, see this article:

  10. ‘People think this virus is going to attack them all, and then they’re all going to die,’ says Prof. Jihad Bishara. ‘Not at all. In fact, most of those infected won’t even know it’. ‘Calm down!’ ‘People are being whipped into unnecessary panic.’

This sounds like duplication of the Global Warming scare tactics which have produced nothing but scepticism ……
The politicians, worldwide have been lying & bullsh… everyone, together with their media lapdogs.
All it’s led to is the public in general not believing government or media.
We all remember when you shout “wolf” too often.

  11. Prof. Jihad Bishara,
‘In fact, most of those infected won’t even know it’. ‘Calm down!’ ‘People are being whipped into unnecessary panic.’

    Well said!

Ebola, bird flu, swine flu, SARS, all had elements of panic reporting during their time.

  12. I think doc here might be complacent
its not floating in the air EXCEPT if someone nearby has the virus and doesnt cover mouth when sneezing coughing.
    large groups are a risk.
nations dont ruin their economies for no good reason
italy lost a massive number of people in 24hrs 900 or so dead.
its not sensible to panic but it is wise to be cautious

  13. People should visit the CDC site “Weekly Influenza Surveillance Report” where the US lab confirmed cases of flu and flu caused pneumonia are reported.
Over 1 million lab tests this year in the US with 222,000+ confirmed cases with 7.1% mortality or about 16,000 deaths.

Then, comparing apples to apples, the world wide lab confirmed cases of Wuhan of 200,000 (last time I checked) with 8,000 deaths to the US flu lab confirmed cases of 200,000+ cases and 16,000 deaths means what?

    • remebering that the flu youre getting now is a really nasty blend of H1N1 vicB strain and another Avian that was un named last I looked
and it killed people in aus in higher numbers last winter
it was truly awesome for pain n fever levels and left me with pneumonia requiring 2 courses antibiotics
and then i copped a 2nd round just under 6mths later
testing what versions i had ? yeah no…the gps dont bother and they should unless your in hospital its unlikely they bother.
but if youve had that and then exposed to covid I suspect bad outcomes

  14. Yes! The great cause of fear is our leadership. We need to push back against these destructive actions as soon as possible.

Efforts to recall governors like Newsom in California should be made.
New parties formed and calls to boycott all Republican and Democratic candidates . Insist on none of the above to be offered on ballots. It is important for those who dissent to show their dissent.

This has been made to be all about the virus, but it is not. A collapsing economy deliberately pushed by the US leadership may fall faster and harder than anticipated. This recession, now, likely, depression has been in the numbers for months. The virus panic can only give a push to what was on its way already. This could be very bad.

A functional economy is necessary for our survival. We need not do to ourselves the damage feared from the virus in our efforts to flee from the virus. Unfortunately, the shutdown offers to do just that.

A complete profile of who is at risk from this virus and who is not needs to be published forthwith. The old, the already sick or immune compromised are logically the most likely victims as stated. Policies to take into account the actual danger need to be implemented. Lets do it now before we are all in a great deal more trouble than the virus can deliver.

  15. Canada is now in lockdown. The government has done this AFTER allowing infected people to fly in here from all corners of the globe. Nobody knows how long the self isolation and what basically amounts to an economic collapse will have to be maintained.
Greta and the Doomsday Cult must be in ecstasy!

    • ex reb n greebles ARE trying to rave up how good this is how clean the air is etc
might well be the thing that gets em properly dissed
cant see many people locked in unable to work or travel looking forward to this as a desirable state of being.
no matter how much less Nitrogen is over china or italy ffs

  16. One year ago:

Stay home or martial law, quite a jump in one year. Empty store shelves here at all locations I have been in the last week.
They scoffed at Make America Great Again because they want what? Turn us into Cuba? Here we are.
Good grief, what a nightmare. We have a lot of work to do to turn this bus around. Stay strong and fight for freedom, never surrender.

  17. Way back in the 20th century there were two pandemics.
1957 Asian Flu [new strain] killed thousands in the U.K and 1 to 2 million world wide.
No panic buying/ no panicking/no lock down.
    Life went on as normal.

1969 Hong Kong Flu [new strain] killed 30000 in the U.K [one figure I saw was 80000] which averages 384 people died every week for 18 months, and 2 to 4 million world wide.
No panicking/ no panic buying/no lock down.
    Life went on as normal.
Fast forward to 2020 and you would think the world was about to end

Both pandemics lasted about 18 months in the U.K

  18. Mac-

I’m sorry to tell you, but I think the world IS about to end. At least, any world that any of us would care to live in.

We are now on the verge of food shortages that will usher in world-wide famine, between the GSM and the policies of the globalist elite which are destroying agriculture.

Pestilence and war are sure to follow, tho pestilence decided to step up first this time.

And not only that, but soon we will surely see fighting in the streets for toilet paper!

I’m just not sure I can live with that. The one fact that helps me keep it all in perspective is the realization that the death rate on this planet is 100%. Always has been, always will be. (Oh yeah, I forgot- again…)

  19. “Status of COVID-19
As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK.

The 4 nations public health HCID group made an interim recommendation in January 2020 to classify COVID-19 as an HCID. This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak. Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase.

The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is also of the opinion that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID.

The need to have a national, coordinated response remains, but this is being met by the government’s COVID-19 response.

Cases of COVID-19 are no longer managed by HCID treatment centres only. All healthcare workers managing possible and confirmed cases should follow the updated national infection and prevention (IPC) guidance for COVID-19, which supersedes all previous IPC guidance for COVID-19. This guidance includes instructions about different personal protective equipment (PPE) ensembles that are appropriate for different clinical scenarios”
