‘The Little Ice Age and the Black Death – Video

Although the global climate experienced a cooling phase  of perhaps as little as one degree  during the Little Ice Age), it had a large impact on agricultural production.

The cooling phase brought with it wet conditions and heavy rainfall, which shortened the growing season by up to two months.

The kinds of seeds growing at the time were not able to withstand the extreme changes in the weather, leading to a shortage in usable crops.

Wheat and rye experienced a significant drop in production across Europe.

Snow could be found on the ground late in the spring, encouraging the parasites that devastated crop growth.

There was also less hay to feed livestock, and straw or pine was used as a substitute.

Much of the livestock had to be slaughtered to feed starving nations, and famine began to spread around Europe.

  1. err no I wouldnt be using it for kids
devil in the detail of the bit i watched
snow on the ground stops pests either surviving or hatching, the ones that did make it when it warmed up, also faced the short seasons issues.
cold temps of half to one deg will halt seeds sprouting
warmer temps isnt such an issue things sprout earlier. ie why hothouses were invented;-)
the claim of Salem witches n ergot is iffy
it was St Vitus Dance from Ergot on rye used for bread and europe featured, Im not aware of any literature confirming usa it was the puritan zealots blaming mostly women (as ever) for anything they thought..might have gone wrong ie dry cows rabid animals whatever took someones fancy.
because the views limited to sign up I wonder if the volcanic activity from iceland at the time rated a mention…it WAS a major factor also global dimming.

  3. Brazil, August 10, 2018:
Cold (Frio) to hit record in Sao Paulo state this weekend.
The polar air mass that carried snow in southern Brazil could also bring a record cold to the state of São Paulo. According to Climatempo, the dawn of Saturday, 11, and Sunday, 12, must have temperatures below 10ºC in practically all the municipalities of São Paulo and there is no rain forecast. Cantareira System has been on alert for 12 days, with 39.9% of the capacity on Friday, 10. This Friday, in São Paulo, the minimum forecast is 10ºC, while the maximum is 20ºC, with moderate winds and cold night.
During the night, temperatures below this average have been recorded in districts outside the central axis, such as Parelheiros (7.8ºC) and Capela do Socorro (8.1ºC), in the south zone, and Freguesia do Ó (9.4ºC), in the northern zone, according to the Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE). In the highest points of the Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina there is snow forecast.
Strong winds also hit the region, the result of an extratropical cyclone that formed in the ocean between the coast of the South and Uruguay, according to Climatempo. In Florianópolis, the wind gusts went from 60 km / h on Thursday, 9, and reached 51 km / h in the city of São Paulo.
    Snow in Santa Catarina
The snow fell again in the mountainous region of Santa Catarina on Thursday, 9. The phenomenon occurred around 14 o’clock when the first flakes were recorded in the municipality of Urupema, located at 1,335 meters altitude. Tourists who frequented the quiet town could even make small snowmen. It also snowed in São Joaquim, Urubici and Bom Jardim da Serra, where temperatures reached 0ºC, however there was no accumulation of ice.
The meteorologists’ prediction was that the phenomenon also occurred in the higher parts of Rio Grande Sul, as in the region of Aparados and Serra, but, to the sadness of tourists, this did not happen.
Already for this Friday, 10, the municipalities with greater chance of snow in the state gaucho are Vacaria, São José dos Ausentes, Bom Jesus, Cambará do Sul and São Francisco de Paula.

  4. So!
When will this all start to be significant? Will the weather finally quash the narrative of the Warmists? Will the population finally be forced by the cognitive dissonance of the weather they experience to the weather the MSM promises to reconsider their position?
When will people conclude they have been had?

  5. The narrative was widened to include “extreme weather” over a decade ago. The media and the other simple minded targets have not yet noticed. If they had, then they would trumpeting BOTH the the heat AND the cold extremes we are seeing as “evidence” of their disease. The means of strangling any opposing view by subverting contrary evidence was – I think – deliberately emplaced as a “coffer dam” to limit the leakge of “belief” in the narrative. Effectively any “climate” event can be co-opted to their purposes.
