This is what happens when people are told that we’ll never see snow again

“Third person dead after Ben Nevis avalanche,” reads the headline.

“This is what happens when people are told that there is hardly any snow around,” says reader Jay Hope. “Very sad!”

“Ben Nevis (Scotland) is the highest mountain in the British Isles,” according to Wikipedia. “Standing at 1,345 metres above sea level, it is at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands, close to the town of Fort William.”

  1. There was an avalanche warning out for most of the Scottish mountains covering this period. Why do people ignore these warnings? Not only do they put their own lives at risk, they also put the rescue teams at risk. And this was not “a patch”.

  2. Twice i’ve had to rescue people from Nevis, one Brazilian guy who was attempting to climb it in flip flops! and a British couple who become completely disorientated in fog and mist. More should be done to make the public more aware of the dangers and how the weather can change from summer to winter in a blink of an eye.
