Younger Dryas Analysis – No Evidence At All CO2 Drives Temperature

I find this article very interesting because it mentions the nano-diamonds that were scattered around our planet some 12,877 years ago.

I discuss these nano-diamonds in depth in Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary Leaps.

The article goes on to say that soot and platinum group metal deposits found in the same layers as the nano-diamonds are evidence of a meteor strike.

What the article does not mention is the Gothenburg magnetic reversal, which I believe is the real culprit here, not a meteor strike. The article also does not mention the mass extinction at the time, which killed off so many ice-age mammals, including the mammoth, mastodon, short-faced bear, sabre-toothed cat, and many, many more.

. . . . . . . . . . . .

“Was there a time in the last few thousand years when CO2 was as high or higher than today?” asks this article by P Gosselin. “Yes, there was, at the end of the last ice age during the Younger Dryas (YD) cold period.”

“What was the temperature during that time? It was much colder than now, as much as 12°C in Greenland.

“Did the temperature go up when the CO2 level went up? No, it went down.

About 13,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age, after two thousand years of warming, melting ice, and rising sea levels, came an abrupt reversal; a cold period that lasted over a thousand years.

The Younger Dryas is named for an alpine flower, Dryas Octopetala, the pollen of which is found in northern tundra areas during this time.

It is thought that the Younger Dryas was caused by the collapse of the northern ice sheets, changing the North Atlantic Overturning Currents. One theory is that the ice sheet collapse was triggered by a comet or meteor strike.

The evidence is a layer of nano-diamonds found in North America and Europe at about the beginning of the Younger Dryas. In that layer there are soot deposits and platinum group metals indicating an extraterrestrial source that caused large forest fires.

Gosselin goes on to show that the nano-diamond event triggered a massive increase in CO2 that lasted for less than 40 years.

However, that increase in CO2 did not cause warming. In fact, our planet continued to cool after the nano-diamond event.

And because the increase in CO2 lasted less than 40 years, it shows that large amounts of CO2 do not persist in the atmosphere for a thousand years as some in climate science claim.

There is no evidence in this data that CO2 drives temperature. On this plot, CO2 and temperature tend to go in opposite directions more than in the same direction.

The paper does acknowledge that CO2 stimulates plant growth, stating  that organic matter in their core samples rose during the higher CO2 period from around 20% to a peak of 35%.

  1. Just watched a documentary about the underlying research about this subject. The research was directed at the spreading/fall out pattern of the nano diamonds, an indicator for the impact of a comet/Meteorite. The big problem was the fact that no crater has been found. An e conclusion/explanation that was discussed was that the comet/meteor must have impacted in the NH ice cap without leaving any crater because the entire impact was absorbed by the ice.

Right after the impact a heat/shockwave and a bombardment of extra terrestrial material such as micro meteorites triggered fires burning down the vegetation. This impact not only triggered the extinction of the Wooly Mammoth but also the Clovis people. Interesting enough proof of this impact has been found in scorched mammoth teeth which were bombarded with micro meteorites.

  2. From http://www.t-rat.com/Pages/ArchaeologyAz.html

“An amazing amount of new data is being discovered that it was NOT the Clovis people that was the cause of the near-total animation of the large Pleistocene Mammals of North America. Rather, as with the dinosaurs final end, a moderate-size meteor or comet hit the earth in northern Canada producing a cataclysmic shock wave, throwing rock and fragments of the Iron-nickel intergalactic “visitor” across the continent. Part of the evidence is that the micro meteorite fragments have been found in mammoth tusks and bone, and melted glass and iridium (as associated with the end of the Cretaceous Period) is being found in the strata right where the last mega fauna became extinct. “That a handful of early hunters could have wiped out the huge population of large Pleistocene mammals in North America in such a short time is a ridiculous theory.”
I’m going out on a limb here, but if the above is true, and it seems probable, BOTH the big games of North America and the Paleo Indian Clovis culture disappeared, incinerated, at precisely the same moment. Thus, it is also likely what are termed the “Archaic Culture” was a second wave of people arriving from Asia as long ago as 10,000 to 13,000 years ago. (precious little preserved material exists that can be radio metrically dated on the transition from Paleo Indians to Archaic.) Could it be that the Clovis people were simply replaced by the Archaic Culture? More research and C-14 dates are needed”.

Anyway, piece by piece the puzzle is going to be solved over time.

  3. Well of course..NO GHG effect therefore NO CO2 effect.
Just another way of proving it. I understand there was not as much cooling or none in the SH at that epoch?

  4. These nano diamonds would it be possible for them to come from other sources in outer space other than from comets impacting the Earth? Perhaps from debris created by supernova explosions for example. In space there are large amounts of debris sized from dust to stars and planets. I would think there are a wide variety of possible sources for nano diamonds.

    • I think the nano-diamonds were created by massive natural nuclear explosions in our very own skies. In fact, I think that’s what created the Carolina Bays, more than two million huge depressions gouged into the ground at the same time as the nano-diamonds rained to the earth. I discuss the Carolina Bays in “Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary Leaps.”

      • I think this is all very interesting. It’s hard to imagine what would cause those massive nuclear explosions. Some say the planets used to be stars. Some say the earth still has a neutron star at its core. There is said to be a oral tradition(?) that says that the earth gets destroyed once every 5000 or so years, by fire one time, then the next time by flood. I have wondered if the fire destruction might be caused by conditions that cause the earth’s former star nature to re-ignite, at least temporarily.

  5. Check out the thunderbolts project that describes the mega electrical phenomena that were documented in the cave art of the time. An example of those events is the Grand Canyon. If it were cut by water there would be a big pile of sediment somewhere, but there isn’t. Instead the pattern of “erosion” is identical to that produced by electric arc excavation of rock in the laboratory. The pictures of an electric sky in the cave art may also be related to magnetic reversal and the creation of nanodiamonds since they are all electrical phenomena.
